Author Spotlight: BloodSucker815

It’s Saturday….you know what that means! Another spotlight!!! Yay!!!

It coming to you late since I actually broke out my stand mixer and made cookies tonight. Big event here. Seriously. :)

Bt this gal had such an interesting story…Vampire Recovery is super awesome. She writes very well and has such interesting ideas. So keep calm and read on.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?

BloodSucker815 but I am known by family and friends as Megan.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m a collage student working on my Bachelors degree in Aviation Management. I currently have my private pilots license and am working towards my instrument license. I live at home with my parents yet to save money. I have a dog, Clifford, and four cats, Russell, Tubba, Squirt, and Punk. I am also an officer in my school’s aviation club that I helped start.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
When not writing I enjoy watching BBC shows, playing Diablo 3, I fly, work, go to class. I also am a very crafty person and spend time working on some craft project.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My phone, definitely can not leave the house without that as there is so much that I can do with it.

What are some of your favorite (non-SVM) books?
Harry Potter is my number one favorite book. I love the Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is also a series I am slowly making my way through, and have enjoyed the Night Huntress series as well.

Favorite (non-True Blood) TV shows and movies?
TV shows would have to be Doctor Who, Sherlock, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abby. Movies at the moment would be The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings extended editions, any James Bond (minus On Her Majesties Secret Service), and Brave.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Oh this is rather hard. I can definitely say Richard Armitage would be my number one choice as he seems like a great guy to hang around with…that and he is not that bad to look at. For the other two David Tennant for probably the same reasons as Richard Armitage, and then my last would have to be Timothy Dalton as he is my favorite James Bond actor and have always wanted to meet him.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Scotland, though New Zealand is a close second as both have very beautiful places to visit.

Do you have any pet peeves?
People who ask legitimately stupid questions, and people who bother me when I am working. I am a very solitary person and enjoy my alone time especially when I am working on things.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
While I love to fly and can do just about any maneuver in my airplane, I have a fear of heights and can not stand roller coasters.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Coffee or tea?
Both actually. I love coffee in the morning to wake me up, but I have loads of different teas that I indulge in when I am in the mood.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
Why and when did you start writing fanfics?

I forget when I first started writing fanfics as I have written them long before I started posting online. I started writing them as little ideas would pop in my head that I thought would make for a great story with the characters and wanted to try and see how they would look on paper.

Besides SVM/True Blood, is there another book, TV show or movie that you would write for?
I have actually written fanfics for the tv show Lost, and have written both Lord of the Rings fics and Harry Potter fics. I am currently thinking of writing a Hobbit fic, but I have not decided if it will be worth posting online yet.

What kind of environment do you write in? Do you prefer using a pen and paper, a computer or some sort of mobile device to write?
I can write with just about anything. I have written with pen and paper before, but I don’t do that anymore as I would have to go back and type it into the computer in order to send it to someone or post it online. I seem to write best at night in the dark just before bed, though I do get moments of writing frenzy during the day too.

Ever write in your Pjs?
Yes most times I do write in my Pjs as I try and stay in my Pjs as long as possible if I do not have to go anywhere

How bout naked? :o)
Not that I recall as I am not usually a fan of being naked :/

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I tend to find inspiration in things I watch on tv or hear in a song. It is usually a line in a song or a mention in a book or tv show that I think “hmm what if so and so were to be in this situation” or something of the like and a fic is born. I have used real life experiences before for some fics but I try and keep my real life separate from fics.

Do you write on a schedule? If you do, how do you keep to that schedule?
No, I have a busy life, and I am a procrastinator, so I write when the mood strikes me or I have a bit of free time when I feel up to writing.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I plan a bit of my story and know the bare bones of what I want the story to look like, but I have been surprised by the direction that some of my stories have gone. Most of the time what ever randomly appears at the time tends to be better than that of what I have planned.

How do you deal with potential writers block?
I have a couple of friends that I bounce ideas off of and they are able to help me with my writers block and I can usually figure out where to move on relatively quickly.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope, though I usually do not let people see a chapter until it is finished. I cannot hand over a half finished chapter even just for help on moving it along.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Yes I have found that I cannot write humor to save my life. Every now and then I can write a funny scene for a fic, but I could not do a humor heavy story.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Keeping thing original and new. I have read so many Eric/Sookie fics that it is hard to not have situations in my fics that have happened in others that I have read. That and when writing lemon scenes not having them be the same old scenes that I have written before.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
It is usually representing something in the fic, if I am really having trouble I bounce ideas around with a friend until we find something that works.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Not really any of the SVM characters I enjoy getting into the minds of different characters and do not want to be putting bits of myself in the character to put them out of character.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I think I have to say Vampire Recovery is my favorite on both accounts as I enjoyed writing it and seeing where the story would go, and the idea of there being locations where drained vampires could go to heal and that Eric would be one of them was a great concept that I was eager to explore.

Do you talk to your family about your writing? How do they feel about it?
They know I write stories, but they have not read any of them and I don’t really talk with them about what the story is about. They are glad that I am writing and that I enjoy it.

Which is your favorite SVM book? Favorite True Blood episode?
Favorite SVM book would be Dead to the World, as for favorite True Blood episode I am not sure which one it is exactly but the episode where Eric stakes Talbot, despite that fact that I love Talbot.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I love them all as it makes me know that my writing is worth continuing, but I would have to say all the comments of people enjoying how I had Adele’s character as I enjoyed getting to write a fic with her in it and was worried that I would not do her character as well as she deserves.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I look to see what the criticism is. If it is on grammar or spelling I know I am horrible at that so it is no problem with me. If it is on something in the story they do not like I just remember that others enjoy my fic and that if that person doesn’t like what is going on they can stop reading my fic.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Do not be afraid to write what you love. If you like it and put it out there others are bound to like it as well. Betas are also helpful as they can check your mistakes and can be helpful in bouncing ideas off from.

Have any recommendations? What are you reading at the moment?
At the moment I have been reading the Barnes & Nobel classic book Sherlock Holmes collection and have been reading Hobbit fanfic so I do not have many recommendations other than Sherlock Holmes if you are a fan of his.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Right now just I have contemplated a wordpress site but for now just the one location.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

Go check her out and leave her some love!
