Author Spotlight: MistressJessica1028

Okay so I may have promised y’all another chapter of Hidden….but I lied. Instead I’m bringing you an author spotlight…because I recently found a previous hidden folder in my google drive with a bunch of unpublished ones. (Yikes!)

So here is an awesome chica, and my beta for everything not Mortal Instruments (I believe her comment was something along the lines of “Yeah, I don’t get this….”)-the illustrious MistressJessica1028! She’s one of my all time favorite authors-and people in general-cause…dude. She’s like the best ever, duh! Anyways, more at the bottom, but for now let’s get to her interview!

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Jessica a.k.a. Mistressjessica1028

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Let’s see . . . it was a dark, stormy night with Phil Collins’ ‘In the Air Tonight’ playing on the radio when I decided to make my entrance to this world.  More than twenty hours later, I finally arrived in the world with black fluffy hair and purple eyes.  Fast forward 33 years later to a brunette with curly hair and hazel eyes that’s happily married to her best friend.  My two Labrador Retriever’s are my babies.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Listen to music, read, bake, garden, travel, shop, etc.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My sunglasses and iPhone.

What are some of your favorite books?
Gone With the Wind, Harry Potter, the Hunger Games Trilogy, The Once and Future King, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Favorite Movies – Casablanca, Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, any James Bond movies
Favorite TV shows – Well, I used to like True Blood . . . The Sopranos, The Big Bang Theory, I Love Lucy, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, MASH, NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, Mad Men, Once Upon a Time

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
I am choosing people from throughout history:
Alexander Skarsgard – DUH
William Shakespeare – Because he can write anything.
Da Vinci – Someone who is creative but can also have intellectual conversations.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?

Do you have any pet peeves?
More than I can count.  Let’s start with stupidity, people with superiority complexes, rudeness . . .

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Right now I’m going through this I don’t like food phase.  It happens to me every summer.  But my favorite candies are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Almond Joys.  I love sushi, a really good steak (medium filet mignon), my husband’s fried chicken, and pancakes.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Vanilla cupcakes – I’m either baking them or have candles that have this scent.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I listen to everything.  However, I was a wedding dj for 8 years; I HATE anything that is typical cheesy wedding music.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
My favorite ride at Walt Disney World is The Haunted Mansion.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Vanilla – I prefer it as a soft serve cone.
Silver or gold?  Today I’m wearing silver
Apple or PC? PC
White wine or red wine? White; red gives me a headache.
Liquor or beer? Liquor; never liked beer.
Coffee or tea?  Tea
Sleep in or get up early?  Sleep in

Okay, now for the good stuff.
Why and when did you start writing fanfics? I started writing January 2014; I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
TB/SVM though I am branching out to OUaT

What kind of environment do you write in?
I can write anywhere…I have an app on my phone as well as carrying notepads with me.  The strangest place I have written is during a Sevendust concert.

Ever write in your PJs?

How bout naked?
Not that I recall . . . wait a minute . . .  yes I have.  I actually dictated a story to myself one day while in the shower.  Inspiration strikes in the strangest places.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Inspiration is all around us.  Sometimes it’s as simple as hearing a song, seeing a picture, or merely asking a question.

Do I put real life into my stories?

Do you write on a schedule?
Not really, though I only post once a week now.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?

How do you deal with potential writers block?
I do things away from writing or reading.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
I find it easier to write with music in the background.  TV is too distracting for me.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I don’t think there is a genre that’s easier for me to write.  My biggest concern, other than making sure people enjoy my stories, is to make sure that I keep things fresh.  I don’t want to be repetitive.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
There never seems to be enough time.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Nope; they just come to me out of the blue.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Eric Northman

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
That’s a tough one to answer.  All of my stories hold a special place in my heart for one reason or another.  I think my favorite might be In His Honor; it’s a heart-wrenching story (though it will have an HEA) but it’s the one I’m the proudest of having written.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Not really

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
My favorite episode is “I Will Rise Up” from Season 2 of True Blood.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
That they wish I had been  the writer for Season 7 of True Blood instead of the current shit we are dealing with.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
If it’s constructive criticism, I may or may not incorporate their comments into my writing.  As for the others, I’ve learned to ignore it.  You can’t please everyone, so I’m not going to bother trying.  I write to please myself first.  If other’s like it, that’s an added bonus.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Perhaps we are too passionate about our fandom.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Have thick skin, ask for help if you need it, and beta your work.

Have any recommendations?
My fav authors:   Magsmacdonald, Morggys, Kittyinaz, Kelpie, Gyllene, Viralla, and kjwrit,

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Wordpress: mistressjessica1028
TWCS: mistressjessica1028

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So yeah. Go leave her some love cause she truly is one of the greatest fanfic writers ever. She’s a beta extraordinnaire and a lovely person just to talk to. Oh and I’m soooooooooorrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy! She did this like months ago, hence the answer about TB Season 7, and I’m just now getting around to posting it. Shame on me.

But I’ll get around to posting those other spotlights in the coming weeks, as well as getting you lovelies more of the story spotlights as well. I’m on a roll with those! Expect a new chapter of Hidden….tomorrow? Can’t promise but I can try. :) Cheers lovelies!
