Author Spotlight: BlankPoofTheory

Hey lovelies! So here’s another deliciously awesome writer for you to check out. She wrote this story that made me cringe and yell and scream and cry and cheer and basically show every human emotion that completely freaked Mr. Kelpie out….yeah.

She’s ingenious in weaving plots together and bringing things back from like…8 chapters before. And suddenly you’re like “Ohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!” So let’s hear what she’s got to say.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Well my pen name is BlankPoofTheory which is my little homage to my life in High School and how obsessed we had all been with AIM. The Blank Theory part is actually a very good, but rather unknown band by the same name that I was completely obsessed with in High School. I would definitely say go check them out, they only had one CD before they broke up, but so awesome. The Poof part was my nickname in High School when I had a slight mishap with white temporary hair color and a well placed smack to the head. As far as real names go, you can call me Monni.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Well I have a birthday coming up in exactly a month from the date I am writing this. I will be 26. I am married with a 4 year old girl that is my life. I also have 8 foster girls, which is my occupation. Those girls do not live with me, but I am needed by them nearly every day, any time of the day. My life can get super crazy.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Well I am pretty much working or spending time with my daughter. For me, I also love to paint, draw, and play video games. I am not really a typical girl, I am the one that was surrounded by boys because I would rather play video games and smash than to go shopping.

What are some things you never leave home without?
Generally I have my purse which has a ridiculous amount of random crap in it, my laptop, and my camera. I never know when I could have a spare minute to focus on myself and do something creative, whether that be writing, taking pictures, or editing them, I need to be prepared if I have that rare second.

What are some of your favorite books?
I am a huge book lover. I have devoted my life to collecting the entire works of Stephen King, I only have about half, but some of my favorites are The Stand, Rose Red, Salem’s Lot, and The Other Half. I also love The Hunger Games trilogy, The Mortal Instruments series, Delirium trilogy, Divergent trilogy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I’m pretty sure there are so many other’s, I love reading.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
I so love anything with vampires so you will notice the theme. TV Shows: True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Buffy, Angel, Scorpion, Game of Thrones. Movies: Lord of the Rings, Thirteen Ghosts, The Stand, Shawshank Redemption, Equilibrium.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?

My first would hands down be Ian Somerhalder (he plays Damon from the Vampire Diaries). Not only is he completely stunning but he is a philanthropist with a soft spot for animals, something I also care deeply for. I would take him just for the company.

My second choice would be Alexander Skarsgard (he is well known for his role as Eric on True Blood) Not only is he one of the best examples for the male species but his childhood would give him skill sets to help us survive. Hopefully he could do these things naked…I wouldn’t complain…

Third choice would be Ryan Reynolds, he has the muscles to really help out, and have you seen him chopping wood in Amityville Horror? ‘Nuf said.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I have a love for historical things, so any place with a lot of historical value, like Stonehenge, or the colluseum.

Do you have any pet peeves?
I abhore rudeness. Ever since

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I am a lover of steak. A good medium-rare, a little more on the rare side is a eye-rolling in the back of my head kind of amazing. For comfort foods pretty much anything chocolate will do the trick.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
My favorite scent that I have in my home is pumpkin. Generally I do save it for fall, but every year I cannot wait until fall when I can bring out my pumpkin scent to fill the house.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I love rock music. Classic rock through new age. I really don’t like country music, sorry to all the country lovers out there, just doesn’t do it for me.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I have 6 tattoos. My back seems to be a tribute to angels as I have an angel in between my shoulder blades, fulle angel wings going down my back, and The Mortal Instruments angelic rune on the back of my neck.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate, vanilla makes me sick
Silver or gold? Silver, not a fond of gold tones
Apple or PC? PC, I have a hatred for Apple
White wine or red wine? Both, depending on what I’m eating and what it should be paired with
Liquor or beer? Liquor, specifically vodka
Coffee or tea?  Coffee, 2 cream, 1 sugar
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in, and man would I love to have a day to sleep in

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
Mortal Instruments, Hunger Games, and some Vampire Diaries. I’m rather new to all this so I’m still discovering.

What kind of environment do you write in?
I write literally whenever I get a second to, whether that’s at work, at home, at the in-laws, in my car.

Ever write in your PJs?
Of course I have.

How bout naked?
Yup, I have done that too.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I try to let the characters get into my head and let them do what they want to do. I do pull my real life experiences into my writing, but I won’t tell you which ones they are.

Do I put real life into my stories?
Yes, in general I try to keep things at least realistic. Which not everyone may like, life isn’t always a happy ending or the good triumphant over evil. Real life is more complicated than that.

Do you write on a schedule?
No it’s impossible for me to do that. Nothing in my life is on a schedule.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I have a generalized idea of what I think will happen but I let the characters really decide, and something that doesn’t work out well because what I want them to do is not what they want to do. In the end I just let them decide, I think it’s better that way.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Not really. When I get stuck I like to sleep on it until the characters tell me what to do.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Well this is a tricky question, I actually struggle with writing in general. English was my single worst subject my entire life and people used to make fun of me for the way I spoke, let alone the way I write. Because it was such a difficulty for me I took the time and tried to focus my energy on getting better with it. Writing is pretty new to me, so I really don’t know what I’m good at or not good at.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
The hardest part for me is just finding the time to write. Some days, weeks, months, are really good and I have a lot more free time, and then others are just so crazy and full I have no time at all.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Either a name comes to me immediately and it helps to shape the story, like City of Vicissitude, or I have to write first and then figure out a name that fits what I wrote.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Actually there is a OC in my first fanfic (Frozen Fire) named Fie, and she pretty much is me if I had lived in the hunger games universe.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I really loved writing City of Vicissitude, and it was the first one I ever finished so there is a special place in my heart for that story. Concept wise, I’m working on another Mortal Instruments story, which hopefully I will be posting the first chapter soon, and I am so excited about it. It’s going to be a lot different than the other ones, but so fun.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
My husband knows about my writing but he doesn’t really read it. He’s not huge on reading in general. My best friend (male) is my biggest fan and reads every chapter as enthusiastically as any of my fans.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
That’s tough. I would say City of Lost Souls. I think that’s why my FF was kind of started in an AU of that book. Somethign about it just really stuck with me.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
One person said that she may have liked my version better than the original story. I seriously cried when I read that. That was the best compliment I could even imagine and it floored me that someone felt that way about my writing.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I have only really had one, and boy was it long. It was right after I ended my sequel, and I knew that not everyone would like the ending, but there was one person that HATED the ending. Reading the review it actually made me giggle a little, not to disrespect the person, it was more of a giggle that I invoked such a strong reaction. It’s my goal as a writer to make you feel, and anger is a strong emotion so I guess I was happy to have made her feel something so strongly.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I love that there are a lot of like minded people in my fandom. I think that was where I failed at the Hunger Games story I wrote, everyone there is all Katniss and Peeta are the only thing I want to read/write about, where for me the character Gale struck me so much more as a character I would like to read and write about.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
If you want to write, then do it. Don’t worry about anything bad you have ever been told, just spend every minute improving yourself until you are where you want to be.

Have any recommendations?
There’s a lot of really good writers out there, and there’s some that need improvements. My recommendation is give everything a chance, you never know when you might find that diamond in the rough.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Well…like I said before I am new with all this so I don’t really have any other accounts on anything else yet. I guess you can always message me on FF.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
Thank you for your support, it was an honor.

So yeah. I’m currently trying to read the sequel to City of Vicissitude…but she’s so brilliant of a writer that I seriously have to take a break every chapter or two because it’s so….asdjhfgasjdflajdf! Yeah-I totally just did that. So, you should go check her out-leave her some love-drop her a line. Whatever you like. Enjoy lovelies!
