And you are…?

Well, I know who I am. At least most days I do. Sometimes I wonder…

Anyhoo-I’m Kelpie.

Since one of the most popular parts of this blog is the author spotlights, I’m going to answer the questions myself. After all, I do qualify, right?

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?

What a coinkidink-I’m Kelpie too! (Har har har.)

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m a wife, a mom and an alleged homemaker. I suck at laundry and dishes and cleaning. Honestly I think I suck at most everything, but Mike will argue that point. I have a Boo, a Pib and a Little Miss…those are the kiddies.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Trying to convince myself that I’m a good little housewife. The only thing I have down is the cooking part-thank you culinary school!

What are some things you never leave home without?
Diapers, phone, water. I have to have water. I’m like a frickin fish or something. I always feel like I’m dying of thirst.

What are some of your favorite (non-SVM) books?
Harry Potter. Definitely. I had to buy a second copy since I wore out the first and those are even getting fairly ratty.

Favorite (non-True Blood) TV shows and movies?
The Birdcage and the Princess Bride are hands down my favorite movies. Shows would be the Walking Dead, Bones, Game of Thrones…Friends. Hands down Friends. I have all 10 seasons on DVD, but I wore those out too and had to buy digital copies.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
I’m glad I put the stipulation famous since I’d have to leave someone in my family out if I hadn’t. Hum, ASkars and Colin O’Donoghue. Duh. And for the third….I feel like a complete skeeze but….Jamie Campbell Bower. Goddamned that kid is hot. And way younger than me. Skeeze alert!

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Paris. Cliche, but I want to try all the food. (Hello! Former culinary student!)

Do you have any pet peeves?
I have bunches, but certain words squick me out. “Panties” is one. I can not STAND that word. No idea why.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I have….18 (updated as of 9.2014) tattoos. At least I think that count is right…I legitimately forget that I have them.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla. I’m a horrible girl.
Silver or gold? Silver, gold just rubs me the wrong way
Apple or PC? PC since my husband is a weirdo. By I love my ipad and iPod
White wine or red wine? Usually red but Mike found a white that I like
Liquor or beer? Depends on my mood. I used to drink an entire bottle of Jack a night, but that was in my party days.
Coffee or tea? Tea. Hate coffee. And I’m short enough as it is. (5’2″)
Sleep in or get up early? What is this “sleep” you speak of? I have a baby and a toddler still sleeping in our bed so….but if I had a choice I’d sleep in.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
Why and when did you start writing fanfics?

Technically I started in like middle school. I’d co-write BSB ones with my friends. ::hides face in shame:: (And I just found some old paper copies and some on an old flashdrive….OH.MY.GOD. The fucking horror!!!!!) Recently though I began writing in about 2010, but between everything going on in my life I never had the time or energy to really get anything going. But now were done having kids and I’m ready to get back to being me,

Besides SVM/True Blood, is there another book, TV show or movie that you would write for?
I started a couple for Lucy and Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia. No idea why that couple stuck in my head, but they did. Sadly, I can’t find very many to read in that genre.
Since the last time I updated this I’ve also started writing for Captain Swan from Once Upon a Time. And I just (like literally 2-3 days ago) started a Mortal Instruments fic. I kinda forgot that I liked that fandom, but Clary and Jace and the sweetest. :)

What kind of environment do you write in? Do you prefer using a pen and paper, a computer or some sort of mobile device to write?
I write whenever I can and wherever I can. Lately it’s been all on the iPad. Otherwise I try to use the laptop, but since Mike’s computer has decided to die a slow painful death, he’s been hijacking the laptop to play Runes of Magic. Can’t do pen and paper to save my life…my brain goes too fast.

Ever write in your PJs?
All the time.

How bout naked? :o)
All the time. I hate clothes.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Yeah I do. I actually have a story rolling in my head that’s a take on the story of Mike and I. Otherwise, my sarcasm and weird sense of humor usually comes out a lot.

Do you write on a schedule? If you do, how do you keep to that schedule?
I would love to, but no. The kids pretty much keep me on my toes.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Some of them I have a general idea in my head, but I usually just go with the flow.

How do you deal with potential writers block?
Go to a different story or talk it out with Mike. Talk with my beta or pre-reader (Yes, that’s you Jess and Rissa!!!) They help me out a lot.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope. Kinda wish I did, but no,

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Comedy is awesomely easy. I’ve had lots of drama in my life, which I can write pretty well. Writing sex stuff is a little harder since I always feel like it sounds ridiculous. By then I go back and read it awhile later and I’m like damn this is ok. So I dunno,

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Finding the time.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I hate doing it. Usually I ask Mike.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Uh…Pam or Lafayette. Honestly, it’s the sarcasm.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Huh, I have a few in the works, but I don’t wanna say cause it’ll spoil them. Although I’m very excited about the side stories for Merry Almost Christmas!

Do you talk to your family about your writing? How do they feel about it?
I talk to Mike about it. He reads it all…he’s kinda my beta. Nobody else knows. I think most of the family would think it was stupid.

Which is your favorite SVM book? Favorite True Blood episode?
Hum. I want to say dead to the world, but I can’t. Honestly the actual SVM books have lost appeal since Eric and Sookie can’t seem to catch a break. I didn’t even read past book 10. I have the others, but I haven’t read them. Fave episode…Time Bomb and I Will Rise Up. I love Godric as a character. The one thing the TB writers did right was create Godric. Otherwise they kinda suck,

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I haven’t gotten much feedback yet since I’ve really only published one complete one, but people asking for continuations is awesome.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Haven’t actually gotten any, but I tend to talk to Mike about it and he talks me off my metaphorical ledge.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Just do it. Honestly, I’m probably the last person you’d want advice from though.

Have any recommendations? What are you reading at the moment?
Any of the writers I’ve featured are my go tos. I have a ton of stories set to alert on

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Here, obviously. If I start posting other places ill update back here.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
It was the least I could do. :)

And there you have it. That’s all (well, maybe not ALL) about me.

  1. I already know the answers, but to get the ball rolling… How many tattoos do you have? What are they? And what are their significance or meanings?

  2. I’ll have to explain them to count. I tend to forget the actual number.
    1. kokopeli inside my left risk
    2. “Peace” inside my right wrist
    3. roman numeral “bracelet” around the outside of my right wrist
    4. moon and 2 stars on the back of my neck to the left
    5. white ink zodiac signs behind left ear
    6. white ink lightning bolt behind right ear
    7. heart with arrow on right hip
    8. phrase in gaelic “you are half of me” on right ribs with a triforce
    9. small bird with “RB” initials on top of left foot
    10. celtic trinity on outside of left ankle
    11. phrase in gaelic “a son is a son until he comes of age, a daughter is a daughter for life” around celtic trinity
    12. cherries on inside of left ankle
    13. Indiana Jones hat with “GW” initials on inside of right ankle
    14. 2 paw prints with “j & m” initials on outside of right ankle

So, that’s all. They all have significance. I grew up hearing stories of kokopeli since part of my family is Native American and he’s always fascinated me. Peace since I believe in peace. The roman numerals are my wedding date and Ryan’s birthday. I will be adding Erik’s birthday and the beanlette’s birthday whenever I get the all clear. The moon is my small tribute to Peter Pan, a story which has always intrigued me. The zodiac signs are Mike’s and mine. Lightning bolt is because I’m a Harry Potter nut. The heart was to illuminate the propensity for weird/bad relationships before Mike. The Gaelic phrase and triforce were all for Mike-he’s a Legend of Zelda nut. The bird is for my best friend Ryan who was a bird watcher (yes, I named my son after him) who died. Celtic trinity to honor Irish heritage. The phrase around it was a tribute to my dad-I’m his only daughter. Mike has a fascination with cherries. The hat is a tribute to my favorite uncle, Greg, who passed away. And the paw prints are for our 2 puppies, Jack & Milo.

    1. I’ve read your stuff…and I love it! Did I not ask you if you wanted to do a spotlight? Cause I either meant to, thought I did or an email or message got lost somewhere. Sigh.

There’s like no one else down here…that I know of at least. Always awesome to find another one!

  3. Aw, thanks and you did ask, but I’m not sure I even classify myself as an author. I like to think of ff as a creative writing experiment.

    1. So true, so true. I seriously wish I had more time for it. Mikes been pushing me to write an actual book…and I’m like, if I have no time to even write on my calendar, how the hell am I gonna write a book? Ah well…

Bt seriously I love your stuff. Dude, amuse bouche is like one of my fave chef Eric’s! I’d go to school (culinary school) and be like damn why can’t I have one of THESE in my kitchen!

  4. A hot man who can cook? Who wouldn’t want that! So, if you run out of authors to spotlight, let me know and I’ll do one…

You should totally write an original fic!

    1. I’ll totally let you know, but for the record, I’ve had a couple people mention you specifically. ;) so I know there’s interest there.

I’m trying to figure out a storyline for an original fic, but my head not cooperating lately. O maybe it’s the cranky 6 month old that keeping me up every single night for hours on end…hummmmm…

  5. Yeah, not sure how well I could even function much less try to think creatively with a cranky baby. Oh we’ll, if the inspiration hits you, then you’ll know its the right time.

  6. Hi – don’t know why I never set myself up to follow you before – but I’m here now. Also ready to storm TB offices. Though I never watch the show (no HBO) – I did see the early seasons on DVD and am now not sure I’ll ever watch again.

ONE seriously funny thing – I hate the word panties too – but I still use it in my writing cause I always spell underware wrong (see, I did it again).

  7. Hi, I’m sure you’re unaware, but I’m a fan of your blog, the way you execute everything so easily, and how awesome it comes out on screen. Which is why I hope you’d take a look at my new book blog, which isn’t much of a blog as of now, but I’m just starting out. It would mean the world to me if you’d check it out because I appreciate your work, and would value your suggestions.
