Author Spotlight: Kodabear18

Hey lovelies! Another brand spanking new author spotlight for ya today! *I’m in a weird mood, ignore me* Except, don’t ignore me cause you really need to hear about this chick.

She’s so frickin awesome. I absolutely LOVE her story The Fallen and drop everything whenever I see an update. Seriously. It ridiculous. I nearly overheated in the sauna the other day when I couldn’t stop reading. :/ That.good. So yeah, I still have yet to read her other two stories because I have had endless amounts of crap to do, but they are on my list and I absolutely cannot wait! Just like I’ll bet you can’t wait for me to shut up.

*zips lips*

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
My real name is Bekah, but I go by Kodabear18 on Fanfiction.net.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Well, I am in High-school. I have three dogs –one of which my pen-name comes from. And I like to think that I’m awesome! (But my family may say otherwise…)

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
I read most of my free-time –when I’m not writing, but I also like to sketch and paint with acrylics sometimes. :D

What are some things you never leave home without?
Whatever book I am currently reading, along with my IPhone (whom I have taken to naming Benny).

What are some of your favorite books?
Anything written by Cassandra Clare, Lord of the Rings, The entire LUX series, Star Wars, Little Women (I read this when I was little, and it just kind of stuck :}), Harry Potter… I could literally go on all day. I read A LOT.

Also, does Death Note count as a book? ‘Cause it’s a manga, but… *shrugs*

Favorite TV shows and movies?
I am currently obsessed with The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Doctor Who, Supernatural, The Office, and Game of Thrones TV-show wise. And I really like anything horror-related movie-wise –zombies, vampires, apocalyptic, etc. :D

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
David Boreanaz, because he is not only exceptionally delicious-looking, but he has played a ton of badass characters and would most likely know what to do. Also, I just really like him. Even if he is more than double my age… *sobs*

Jennifer Lawrence, because… why not? She’s just really awesome, and she would probably help keep everybody calm by cracking jokes about food every five minutes.

Bear Grylls. He’s the most sensible person, to me, to be on a deserted island with. He would probably be my only hope for living for more than three days, and he might actually know how to get OFF of the island. See? I can think rationally if I try…

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Prague!!! I’d actually love to live in Prague, but sadly I’m stuck in the U.S. for a few more years. I totally freaked out when Cassandra Clare mentioned Prague in City of Lost Souls though, I have to say… like, I had a total fangirl-attack, and started screaming. My parents were not only concerned for my mental health, but they feared that our neighbors might’ve called the police. They didn’t though, thankfully.

Do you have any pet peeves?
I CANNOT STAND it when people confuse ‘they’re’ with ‘their’. Or ‘your’ with ‘you’re’. Especially when said people are in high-school, and have been learning how to spell words correctly for YEARS!!! It makes me want to put my fist through a wall. But I usually don’t end up doing that, obviously… Also, I’m slightly OCD when it comes to correct grammar. Y’know, if you didn’t gather that already.

I also hate it when people mistreat books. My sister once threw away the dust-jacket of a really good book, and I just about murdered her. I slapped her numerous times on her arm, and she even had the nerve to laugh about it!

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I could literally live off of pizza. It’s my favorite. And I’d have to say either ice-cream for my comfort food, or hot-Cheetos. It really depends on the mood I’m in.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
It’s a three-way tie between Sandalwood; the smell of evergreens in the springtime –I know, I’m weird; and Old Spice. I really like all three of those though, so…

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I like punk-rock and classic-rock. Really anything that’s loud and has a good drum solo somewhere in the mix. My favorites, though, are Sleeping with Sirens, Framing Hanley, Mayday Parade, and Green Day. But my list is far too long to actually list here.

I hate, LOATHE, country music. It just sounds tang-y, and annoying, and… *sigh* And a lot of people find me completely weird when I say this, because I live in a town that has tons of farms and country-people in it. Everybody else seems to like that tang-y stuff, but it makes me cringe!

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I could be classified as ‘anti-social’. And I would totally agree with that classification.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate for ice-cream, and vanilla for most everything else.
Silver or gold? Silver, all the way.
Apple or PC? Apple for phones and tablets; PC for computers. (Unless you’re into music-editing, then I’d pick Apple for computers)
White wine or red wine? I’ve never had either, but I guess that I’d choose red wine. It just gives me a good ‘vibe’.
Liquor or beer? Again, never had either. But if I had to choose, it’d be liquor. My best-friend’s dad used to drink beer every now and then, and it smelled disgusting.
Coffee or tea?  Coffee. I would be a complete zombie without it.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in during summer and fall; get up early during winter and spring. (I like to watch it snow in the mornings during the last two seasons so…)

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
The Mortal Instruments!!! I’ve never actually read anything besides TMI, and I’ve never written for anything else. :D

What kind of environment do you write in?
I turn on music and plop down onto my giant-beanbag. Simple, yet comfy.

Ever write in your PJs?
How else would I?

How bout naked?
No… unless you count under my clothes, then yes. Yes, I have.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I just write what I feel, really. If I’m happy, sad, slightly depressed… it all ends up somehow in my writing. And no, I don’t normally bring my life into my writing. My life is really boring, so… there’s not a lot to write about.

Do you write on a schedule?
I try to, but I usually just end up writing whenever I feel inspired.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I usually have an idea in mind as of what I want the main plot to be, but then I just end up winging it. I’m really bad at conforming to one single idea, and if I try to follow a plan I’ll usually end up changing everything, so… yeah. I just normally end up writing what I feel like, and then adding things when I edit my stories at the end.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Not really. I do like to listen to music or a movie while I write, though. So, I guess that counts, right?

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I’d like to think that I’m good at writing humor and comedy, but I don’t really know. I do know though, that I’m not very great at writing romance. I just normally feel awkward writing it, but my readers seem to enjoy it, so… What can you do? *shrugs*

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Updating on time. I always feel like I’m letting down the people who’ve reviewed and followed my stories when I can’t update as often as I would like. It makes me feel icky, and I don’t like feeling icky.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I usually pick a random word for the titles that I think would fit the story best, and then try to mold it into the story later on. I don’t really know how I come up with most of the things I write, so… It’s mostly all just random puns and references jotted down when I think of them.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Probably Clary. She’s really artsy and clumsy, I guess, but then she kind of comes out of her shell and becomes a badass throughout the series. I, though, am everything but the badass part. I did take Karate for twelve years though…

Also Jace. I’m known to be overly-sarcastic in everyday life, and I have a lack of friends to prove it. I probably come off as slightly hostile sometimes, so…

And Simon, because I’m just the slightest bit of a complete and total nerd!

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I’d have to say Stained is my favorite. It is written differently than my other stories, and I really enjoy writing from the narrator’s perspective, instead of first-person. It’s just a lot more fun to me, writing about characters, instead of writing as if I am them. I don’t know.

My favorite story concept-wise would have to be one that I am currently working on. I am going to write it completely before I post it on Fanfiction.net, though. It’s called ‘The Promotion’. :D

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
They know that I write fanfics, but I have never told them what fandom I’m writing for or anything. I have various passwords set on my laptop and all of the rest of my electronics, so there’s really no way that they could find out what I’m writing. It’s not that I’m embarrassed about what I write or anything like that. I just… want this to be MINE, I guess.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
City of Heavenly Fire, hands down! Is there really any competition? Really?

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Probably this interview, actually.  This, and that ‘Story Spotlight’ thing that you did a while ago. I think that it’s really cool that I’m being recognized as an actual ‘author’, so… It just makes me feel accomplished, I guess. :)

But I do really enjoy all of the compliments that I get on my writing. They all end up making me smile in the end. :D

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I don’t allow anything anybody may say affect my life. Opinions are opinions, and everybody is entitled to their own, but that doesn’t mean that I have to take anything to heart. If somebody tells me something that is constructive and helpful to improve my writing, then yes, I will try out their advice and see if it helps me in any way while I write. But if somebody may tell me something that is just rude, or completely unhelpful in any way to my writing, I will just forget about it and move on with my life. Words are just words, and I don’t have to read them if I don’t feel like it. :D

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I love how so many people appreciate the poetry and references that are used in this fandom. There’s just so much intelligence that kind of floats around within us, and the inside-jokes are endless. Like, if I talked to my sister how I do to some of the people of Fanfiction. net, she would just stare at me like I was crazy. I can’t talk about all of these awesome things with normal people, and I love that I can actually communicate with other fan-people within this fandom. It’s very welcoming, and so far everybody is really nice so… yeah

What I hate about this fandom though, is that I can’t actually find other people in the fandom outside of the internet. I’ve never actually met anyone in real-life that has read these books. I might if I ever actually get to go tone of those reading conventions, but for now… *shrugs* It might just be because I live in a relatively small town though…

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
I am probably one of the worst people to ask for advice from… I’m what people would call a pessimist, so… But I guess that if I had to give someone advice, I would just tell them to keep writing. And reading. The more you read, the more writing tips that your mind picks up. You won’t even notice it, until you try writing and you notice just how much you’ve improved. I don’t actually know if this works for anyone else, but this is what happened to me. I just recently started to get into reading a couple of years ago, and now that I look back on my earlier stories I notice all of the mistakes that I made.

Long story short, just keep trying. Keep writing. :D

(Wow, that advice sucked…)

Have any recommendations?
Ascension by Niknakz93, this is one of my all-time favorite fics. It’s just so awesome and hilarious to read, and it is written really well, too.

Also anything by ddpjclaf. She’s amazing.

Really, there are just too many for me to list them all. :D

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
On Fanfiction.net, but of course you already knew that. I have also been thinking about making an Instagram or a Tumblr account for my fanfics. I don’t really know yet, but we’ll see!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
Thank you, it was really fun to do!!!

So yeah, you need to go read her stuff. She’s adorably awesome and I can’t wait to read her other fics. *squeal* So yeah, go read and leave her some love!

Author Spotlight: NiteFang

Hello my lovely readers!!! I am bringing you another awesome author today! *Cue trumpets*

Okay, so this chick is actually quite the little fandom jumper. She’s written for OUAT (where I found her), Chronicles of Narnia, Maximum Ride, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Life with Derek and Supernatural. I can’t even pretend I have any clue about some of those fandoms, but I was intrigued enough to skim her HP and GOT stuff…still seriously great. Anyhoo, she’s awesome and I’m gonna let her “talk”. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie. And you are?
I’m Ashley or Ash, better known as nitefang.

So tell me a little bit about yourself.
I’m Filipino and currently a college senior, majoring in Anthropology and minoring in creative writing. At the risk of making this sound like an application, I graduate in the spring. However, I don’t know what to do with my life beyond that point. I just wanna write stories forever.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
My effing thesis. All of my regrets in signing up for that. But before that, I slept and read a lot. I’m so lazy.

What are some things you never leave home without?
A spare hair tie, definitely. And my phone—never know when I need to type out an errant story idea or field a call from my grandparents who want to make sure their plants are still alive.

What are some of your favorite books?
I mean, apart from Harry Potter, of course, I loved reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown—just the Robert Langdon books as a whole. I have a thing about fun adventure, treasure-hunting things. I was also very big on Meg Cabot and the James Patterson YA series, Maximum Ride. I also devoured the Warriors series—the one about cats. I never knew I could be so invested in feline relationships.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
The thing about me and TV shows—okay, I watch a lot of shows (The Blacklist, Outlander, Hart of Dixie, Once Upon a Time, Haven), but I can’t say I have a favorite. Maybe Avatar: The Last Airbender.

My all-time favorite movie has to be Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It came out on my birthday, and when I got the DVD, I watched that movie every morning for at least two years. At one point in my life, I could quote the entire thing. I recently watched Kingsmen, and oh, my God. Highly recommend it.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Bear Grilles, for obvious reasons. Our survival would rest entirely on his shoulders. Jennifer Lawrence would be there to keep our spirits alive. And then I’d throw in Nick Jonas to sing covers in the background as the soundtrack to our endeavors—plus, you know, eye candy.

What is one place you’d love to visit?
New Zealand, for sure. Lord of the Rings, bro. That’d be the only time I’d agree to run around some hills—when I’m pretending to be Aragorn or something (“Legolas! What do your elf eyes see?”)

Do you have any pet peeves?
The incorrect pronunciation of Iraq and Iran. It’s not EYE-rack and EYE-ran; it’s IH-rack and IH-ran.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I adore microwave Salisbury steak. I will willingly die from it. As for comfort foods, I love my mom’s chicken and asparagus soup.

What’s your favorites scent—one that says “home” to you?
Home smells like fried garlic and onions. Granted, I wouldn’t make my car smell like that, but you know…

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I still listen to the music I grew up with. Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Celine Dion, even Wilson Phillips. I’m pretty well-versed with Top 40’s pop and stuff, but it’s not always my go-to. I also listen to soundtracks of movies, basically anything by Hans Zimmer.

I cannot stand incomprehensible rap. Take from that what you will.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I’m only 22, and already I have at least five white hairs somewhere on my head. And that’s not counting the god-knows-how-many I’ve already pulled out. And before you tell me not to do that, I have black hair. It stands out.

Just for some insight into you, pick one. Feel free to tell why or why not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate, all the way. I thought Fig Newtons were full of chocolate before I ever had one. So much disappointment.
Silver or gold? Silver. My skin tone’s too yellow for gold to complement it.
Apple or PC? Apple. More reliability. Windows was a pain.
White whine or red wine? Red.
Liquor or beer? Liquor.
Coffee or tea? Coffee.
Sleep in or get up early? Early.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I wrote for Glee and Once Upon a Time, but now I’m finally getting into Harry Potter. I’ve been reading HP fics since I got into fandoms when I was in my sophomore year of high school. I also read Hunger Games and Firefly. It really depends on my mood.

What kind of environment do you write in?
I write mostly when I’m alone. I like to recite dialogue out loud before I write it.

Ever write in your PJ’s?
All the time.

How ‘bout naked?
Uh, I live with my grandparents, my mom, three uncles, and my aunt. There’ll be none of that.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
If I think up a plot that I really like or that I find interesting, that’s how it usually starts. Very rarely have I actually used a real-life experience as kindling for a story.

Do you put real life into your stories?
Surprisingly, no. I use aspects of personalities from other stories and sort of mesh them around together. Only once or twice have I ever put something real into a story, and if I did, it was a throwaway comment.

Do you write on a schedule?
My life doesn’t follow a schedule, really, so the trend persists. It happens when it happens.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I always plan. I can’t help it. I like to get my stories all down in some form so I can pull back and rearrange things to the benefit of the overall plot. I can never do things on the fly, and the one time I did… Well, I’m still revising the story today. It’s been four years. I need to move on. But I can’t. It hurts.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
If I’m writing fanfiction, I make sure that while I am in the process of writing the story, the only fanfic I read is of that fandom I’m writing for—so that I’m not mixing up characters and atmospheres. I made the mistake of getting into Glee fanfiction while I was writing my Life With Derek fic, and it was a mess. I still haven’t finished it.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I’m much better writing humor or fluff than I am angst or any kind of sadness. I don’t know how to make myself do it, to get into that kind of mindset or emotional state to be able to properly articulate that kind of feeling.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Capturing the atmosphere of the story. Glee fics were easy for me because I was still in school, but when it comes to Harry Potter, it’s a little difficult because of the influence of the movies on the books on top of the preconceived setting readers already developed. So when you’re reading, you’ve kind of got this expectation, this set feeling. When I think Harry Potter, I immediately jump to the Great Hall, with the warm woods, the golden light, the clatter of cutlery, and even the bell-like music. There are times when I want to sustain that feeling, that atmosphere, and other times when I need to move away from it. I like getting to the point with my stories, so it’s often going to be dialogue-heavy, not much scenery. So it’s a bit of a struggle.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Definitely. That’s why I like to plan things out in their entirety so that each section gets a heading, which is a chapter title that encompasses the action of the chapter. Then the entire story has a title that encapsulates what’s going on or is a key point in the story. I like to be witty too, but if it doesn’t happen, I can’t force it.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Draco Malfoy. I’m not a big fan of him because no one has the excuse to be a piece of shit to other people, but his struggle during the sixth and seventh books—with his life and his family on the line—really hit me kind of hard. I’m very family-oriented so if they happened to be indoctrinated into the agenda of a sociopath,  I wouldn’t feel that I’d have the choice to leave them. I’d stay and try to keep them alive as best as I could, even if that meant screwing myself up.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write? Which of your stories is your favorite concept-wise?
The stories I most enjoyed writing are my Harry Potter fics. I love being able to weave stories around magical elements and play with characters that I’ve loved since I was small. There’s just something about that world that elicits a lot of feelings for me, and being able to submerse myself in that as a writer is kind of dream-come-true-ish.

Concept-wise, my favorite is the one I’m writing now—it’s unpublished, but it’s about Fred and Hermione being caught in a bit of an explosion that traps them in a book of Muggle fairy tales, and they’ve got to play through the stories, with the unhelpful aid of their friends and family outside of the book. Being able to put Harry Potter and Disney together is the best thing.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
No.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
“Mash-Up” from Glee. “Snow Drifts/There’s No Place Like Home” from Once Upon a Time. “The Cave of Two Lovers” from Avatar the Last Airbender.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I consider two to be the best—one had a person crying from laughter in the middle of the night and trying to stifle it because everyone else in their house was asleep, and the other had a person crying because of how well I was able to articulate exactly how they felt about something. Being able to affect people in that way is one thing I strive to do as a writer.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I take it as a means to improve. Unless I know they’re absolutely wrong or doing it vindictively, then it’s received and accepted with a good dose of humor.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Ship wars. It’s always going to boil down to ship wars that ruin fandoms. It happened to me in Glee, and it made me take a break from Once Upon a Time a couple of months ago. I’ve managed to stay far away from it in Harry Potter.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
There’s no such thing as a writer’s block. It’s just a normal hitch in storytelling that you’ve either got to power through or take a break and write a different scene. Visualizing is a great way to help you write, setting your characters and even finding a good song that matches the mood. Writer’s block isn’t a good enough excuse to put things down and stop writing entirely.

When I say “take a break,” I mean skip to a scene that’s more vivid in your mind and start off from there too. If this is something you’re absolutely stuck on, go from a different angle, start from a different point, use a different character’s perspective, or even ask yourself if it’s really that necessary.

And do not ever say you’re not going to read a genre because you don’t want to step on any author’s toes and then write in it. Some dumb bitch said that in my advanced creative writing workshop, and we all literally stopped and stared. Her story sounded almost exactly like a published author’s novel, and we kept telling her that, she was like, “No, I’ve never read his work. I don’t read this genre so I can have plausible deniability.”

I have never wanted to throw my entire backpack (with my laptop, notebooks, and textbook in it) at a person so badly.

Have any recommendations?
If you’re a Dramione fan, read anything by Bex-Chan. If you like Chloe Sullivan (from Smallville) at all, read Tarafina/Sarcasticfina.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
I’m nitefang on Tumblr, fanfiction.net, and AO3! :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

See? She’s smart and awesome and I can’t get enough. :) So go stalk, uh-I mean, read her stories and let her know of her awesomeness. :)

Author Spotlight: Malmo722

Hey darlins! So, here’s another amazing author for you to check out.. She’s a relative newcomer to my fandoms, although she’s been writing for Twilight for a few years. But yeah, she’s…yeah. Awesome. She’s not afraid to take risks with her characters, which is hugely refreshing. I mean, I hate what actually happened in the story (she mentions it below so you’ll know what I mean) but it’s the way the story went…and it made sense. And I was so totally stoked that she took the chance. So yeah. Anyways, I’ll let you hear from her and I’ll see you below.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
My pen name is Malmo722 but my real name is Julia.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m Canadian, 27 and I work in architecture. I’m not married and I have no kids but I do have a boyfriend that I love very much. We’ve been together for almost 5 years. That’s about it, I’m not exciting.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
I read, watch TV, got to the movies, listen to music, cross stitch, hang out with friends, family and my boyfriend. My life is pretty basic.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My phone, headphones and money. Those are pretty much the only things I need. Sometimes a book if I don’t plan on writing.

What are some of your favorite books?
My favorite book is East of Eden by George Steinbeck. I’m also a big fan of all the works of Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk and Kurt Vonnegut.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Movies: I love all the movies directed by David Fincher, I think he’s a perfect director and makes some of the best movies today. I also love Lost In Translation, American Beauty, The Cell, Reality Bites and That Thing You Do! There are more but we’d be here for days if I listed them all.

TV: I love Arrested Development, 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Rec, Archer, True Blood, Breaking Bad, Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls, Brooklyn 99, Friends – there are so many. I watch way too much TV.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Chris Evans because he’s stupid handsome and I feel like he would know how to build shelter.
Jennifer Lawrence to entertain me.
Bear Grylls because he knows how to survive in the wilderness.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I’d love to go to Iceland. I’m very interested in all the Nordic countries and would to go to any of them.

Do you have any pet peeves?
People who chew with their mouths open, it makes my skin crawl.

What are some of your favorite foods? How bout comfort foods?
I love burgers, bacon, cherries and chocolate. I don’t really have a comfort food, I just love all food equally.

Whats your favorite scent-one that says hometo you?
I love the smell of freshly cut grass, clean laundry and lemons.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely cant stand?
I love all kinds of rock, 90’s hip-hop and rap, boy bands, 90’s girl bands and electronica. I hate, hate, hate country music.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I am petrified of the shark from Finding Nemo. Like panic attack inducing afraid of him and sharks in general.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate because it’s delicious and vanilla is the worst.
Silver or gold? Silver because it looks better on my pale skin.
Apple or PC? I don’t really care as long as the computer works.
White wine or red wine? White wine.
Liquor or beer? Beer.
Coffee or tea?  Tea – I come from an English background so tea.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep and I have never gotten along. I go to bed late and wake up early.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
It depends on what I’m in love with at the time. I started in the Twilight fandom but now I switch back and forth from True Blood and Sherlock.

What kind of environment do you write in?
I write in all environments, I write at home, on the subway, at work, everywhere. If I have a free moment I’m usually writing. I usually write better if I can listen to music.

Ever write in your PJs?
Always.

How bout naked?
Probably, I love being naked so I’ve probably written naked.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Usually they are fantasies, something I wish was true but isn’t. Summer Nights was inspired by a dream. One of my Twilight fics, Not Dark Yet, was inspired by a Snow Patrol song. Music inspires almost everything I write.

I do pull from real life, people always say to write what you know, so I write what I know.  Of course, not huge events but tiny nuances.

Do you write on a schedule?
No, I find if I’m pressured to write I won’t produce a quality product.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I try plan out my stories but it never really turns out the way I want it to. Summer Nights is not going to end the way I originally planned. I hope it all turns out for the best.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
I always thank my readers in my A/N.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I like romance but I also like writing science fiction and horror. I also love writing about people who are famous and their lives behind the scenes. I love dialogue, I think banter is my strength.

I suck at writing smut. At least I think I do.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
It sucks when something in your story changes but it conflicts with something that’s already been posted, you can’t go back and change it to create a more fluid story.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I usually use song titles unless something comes to me. I find titling my stories and chapters incredibly difficult. Usually if a song influences a chapter that becomes the chapters name.

Which character do you identify with the most?
A little bit of myself is in all the characters I write so I find it easy to identify with all of them. Usually whatever POV I’m writing from is the character I identify with most.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I love writing romance but I also enjoy sci-fi, horror, angst and drama. My favorite story concept wise is Not Dark Yet. I wrote it in the Twilight fandom and its about the last survivors of the zombie apocalypse, all the characters have abilities and it’s about them trying to find a safe haven. If I was ever to write original fiction, I would create a series based off of this.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
I don’t go into details because I’m still rather embarrassed by my writing but yes I talk to them all the time about it. My mom used to actually read some of it. They are very supportive and love that I have found something I love so much.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
Like most in the True Blood fandom I love book four/season 4. I am an Eric lover and this highlights him in a way that I like. I think they really dropped the ball with Eric, I think he was one of the most interesting characters and they just kind of wrote him off because, you know, Bill and Sookie just had to be together in the show. I never finished the books to be honest.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I’ve received many but I always like when people tell me I’m a good enough writer to write actual fiction. It actually makes me really want to try to write original works.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
It depends on what it is. If it’s actually constructive criticism I listen. Usually people tell me that my grammar and spelling isn’t very good, it’s my most common criticism, but I try very hard to be better. I know I’ll never be flawless at it but I improve with every chapter I write.

If its just non-sense or people being mean for the sake of being mean, I ignore it.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
In the True Blood fandom, I hate how much everyone hate Bill. I hate him, I do but I had Sookie sleep with him in a story because it made sense for her to and I lost readers. I just think it’s crazy. In the Twilight fandom I hate how the most popular stories always feature the most weak version of Bella and in the Sherlock fandom I hate the lack of AU. They are always detective stories and I wish people would write outside of that more. In general, I prefer fan fiction that is nothing like the actual canon.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
It doesn’t matter how many reviews you have, it doesn’t matter if someone doesn’t like it, it doesn’t matter if you aren’t an amazing writer, if you love it, just keep writing. When it comes down to it you are the most important part of your writing and when you stop writing for yourself and start writing for reviews or what others will think is when it stops being fun and you’ll start to hate it.

Have any recommendations?
In the True Blood fandom I’m finding it hard to find stories I actually like. I started reading one call Sweet Home Louisiana by Melodious Nocturn and Sookie the Vampire Slayer by Sleepy Lotus. In the Sherlock fandom there is a story called Performance in a Leading Role by Mad Lori is probably the best fan fiction I have ever read.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
Thanks so much for asking! I had a lot of fun doing this.

So yeah. She’s awesome and you should really go read her stuff. Leave her some love cause everyone loves to be loved! :) Enjoy lovelies!

Author Spotlight: SephCurrentDaughterofPoseidon

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.

And you are? (Real name optional, pen name for sure, thanks!)

Hello, Kelpie! I’m SephCurrentDaughterofPoseidon, but you can call me Kaitlyn, it’s much easier.

So, tell me a little about yourself.

I’m a 17 year old high-school senior. I love to read write, though most people (including myself) think that I’m dyslexic. I am ADD, and way to easily distracted. I plan on going to college and majoring in Biology and going to medical school afterward. I actually feel very awkward telling people things about myself, which is why this probably seems kind of choppy.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?

I study a lot, work with my grandmother, spend time with my family, text my friends (though, I do this when I’m writing too), I read a lot, and, depending on the time of year, I might watch a little TV.

What are some things you never leave home without?

My phone, my glasses (sadly), my trusty Daryl Dixon wallet, a pair of Skull Candy headphones, and my clothes, of course.

What are some of your favorite books?

Harry Potter will always be #1 in my heart. Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, Divergent Trilogy, Hunger Games (excluding Mockingjay) Trilogy, The Maze Runner Trilogy, The Inheritance Cycle, Fallen series by Lauren Kate (so waiting eagerly for this movie!), Uglies series, Leviathan, The Lord of the Rings, Undead, and Unfed.

Favorite TV shows and movies?

TV Shows: The Walking Dead, all the way. I just love it so much! The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Teen Wolf, and Tosh Point-O.

Movies: The Maze Runner (current obsession), Divergent, The Mortal Instruments, Avengers, Thor, Thor II, Red Dawn, Clash of the Titians, Immortals, The Mummy series, Iron Man I-III, Captain America I and II, Percy Jackson I and II, The A-Team, Grown Ups,

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?

I would have Chris Hemsworth, because he would keep me entertained by walking around without a shirt. Then I would have JK Rowling, so she could use the time that we were stranded to start a prequel to the Harry Potter series. And lastly, I would have Cassandra Clare because I need her advice on character development with people like Jace! So, yeah, the food is going to have to magically appear on its own, and so is shelter.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?

France, because I want to see all of the huge cathedrals that were put up during the different periods throughout history. (Slight architect junkie at the moment)

Do you have any pet peeves?

When people do something stupid and then act offended or confused when you get angry at them. It makes me angry enough to want to start throwing things around. Other than that, obnoxiously loud noises and ringtones that people make for no reason.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?

I love noodles. They are like the best thing ever…noodles and bread are just unbeatable. In any combination. I don’t really care how. I am a sweets person for comfort food, but shockingly, I don’t really do ice cream much, I’ll take brownies, I guess…chocolate brownies.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?

The smell of my vanilla cupcake candle that I got like a year ago. It is just so amazing.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?

I am partial to rock, but I can listen to just about anything that isn’t rap or country. I don’t like either genre, which is really strange, considering that my family tilts either way, and I’m standing in the middle with the rocker vibe, like a weirdo.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.

I hate the feeling of chalk.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.

Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate

Silver or gold?  Silver

Apple or PC?  PC

White wine or red wine? White wine (though, I’ve never had either)

Liquor or beer? Liquor

Coffee or tea?  Coffee (I live off this stuff like air)

Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in!

Okay, now for the good stuff.

What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?

At the moment it’s TMI/TID, but I normal drift around a lot. I went from Percy Jackson to The Walking Dead, to Harry Potter, to TMI, sometimes I go to Resident Evil, and Divergent, and I’ve been looking into the Maze Runner a bit too.

What kind of environment do you write in?

Normally in my room. I like writing when I’m by myself, no matter what I’m working on. Though, if I have to, I can write just about anywhere. I’ve written on my phone in a full car with everyone talking without any headphones to take away from the noise. Yes, it was painful.

Ever write in your PJs?

All the time. Actually, it’s preferred.

How bout naked?

Never done it, and I don’t think I ever will.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?

I find inspiration through everything, actually. It’s hard to explain, I don’t pull inspiration for a story from just one source. That would be impossible. I have gotten them from music, from tid-bits of conversation that I’ve heard, a random thought that has appeared into my head, from how someone that I know has acted before. I’ve have gotten them from pictures, daydreams, dreams, shows, movies, I’m pretty sure one time I even got a bit from a glare that I saw someone give.

Do I put real life into my stories?

No, everything that I put into stories comes from my head. It may have been inspired by something that came from real life, but it never comes out as anything close. I don’t think that real life should be put into a fanfiction.

Do you write on a schedule?

No. Sadly, I don’t. I want to…like really bad, but I can’t. If I don’t write whenever I think of something, I’ll end up forgetting it. I don’t know how many times I’ve been stumped on a chapter because I forgot what I was supposed to be writing.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?

It really does depend on the story. On Snowed In, it’s definitely been me just writing whatever has come to my head. With “What are Friends For?” it was like that at first, but around ten chapters or so in, I started getting a feel for the story and I knew what I wanted to happen.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?

Not really, though I have noticed that when I play music when I write, my writing seems to reflect the songs that I’m listening to.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?

I’m sucky at writing anything overly sad, like tragedy or angst. I’ve never really written for the genre, I’m much more centered on writing something more upbeat and fun.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?

I’m a pretty disorganized person, so I’m going to say getting everything together in my head before it all starts. It’s the hardest to do, even if getting the ideas for everything is pretty easy.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?

Somewhat, but not really. Sometimes, it involves reading over everything that I have and trying to summarize it all in a few words. But other times I am talking to my friends, asking them to help with the names on the chapters.

Which character do you identify with the most?

At the moment, I think I might identify the most with Clary when I write with her. She’s awesome. And I just love her, and I can so understand why she loves Jace so much.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?

My favorite to write has probably been my Percy Jackson Fic, Electrifying Currents  It’s been my favorite action-wise, but I do have a new TMI Fic that I’m starting to write that might be my favorite concept wise. It’s about Zombies, which are always fun!

Do you talk to your family about your writing?

No, I don’t.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?

At the moment, I would say that the City of Heavenly Fire was my favorite, but I might change my mind as soon as I get my hands on the Bane Chronicles.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?

I had someone review and tell me that I was their absolute favorite author that they loved all of my stories, and if I didn’t update soon, they would die. Slightly concerning, but altogether very sweet.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?

Depending on the level, I either take it to heart and listen to what they said, because they’re most likely right. If it’s harsh, just to be harsh, I roll my eyes, laugh and keep writing. If it’s amusing enough, I might even share it with some of my friends.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?

My favorite part would have to be the fact that there are so many stories in the fandoms. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have so many good choices to pick from. I don’t really know what my least favorite part would be, I don’t really have one.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Just keep writing. It’s the only way that anyone ever gets better. I guess that’s all I can really say: Practice makes perfect.

Have any recommendations?

Definitely A tale of Two by Simplymoshingintomorodor…actually anything by her would be amazing, and Project Marriage by Thalia Marie Grace. They’re both amazing.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?

Sadly, I’m pretty nonexistent when it comes to any kind of social media, so if you want to stalk or talk to me, just send me a PM.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

Author Spotlight: VictoryInTrouble

Hallo lovelies! I am bringing you another completely awesome author to check out. This chick writes for the TB/SVM fandom and her story Northman’s Nanny is another one of those that brought me back into the fandom. She writes real for lack of a better way to put it. Her characters are more real than a lot of real people I know, which is a feat. So, yeah. She rocks and I’m gonna shut up so you can read what she has to say. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
HI! I’m VictoryInTrouble. Some people call me Vic, but I don’t put my real name online.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I am in my 30s, I have two boys who make me smile and want to tear my hair out sometimes, a husband who makes me laugh and want to strangle him sometimes, and a dog who I love but could give away at times. I have never been a writer before this last year. In fact, I used to hate writing but I never really tried to do any creative writing. It was mostly reports and essays. Writing creatively is much more fun!

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing, I am taking care of my family, reading, watching TV, drawing, or my current obsession- making banners now that I can work photoshop somewhat well.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My purse, my kid’s epipen, phone, a hair elastic, and chapstick!

What are some of your favorite books?
My genre of choice is science fiction so my favorites reflect that. I love Darwin’s Radio and sequel by Greg Bear(or anything by him, really), The Entire and The Rose series by Kay Kenyon, Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress, The Time Traveler’s Wife though the movie was not so great. I also love murder mysteries and Mary Higgins Clark was always my favorite author for that. Sometimes I want fun so I read Janet Evanovich or a sexy romance novel. I am in a book club and while I wouldn’t pick out most of the books we read, my favorite has been Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Brunt.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
TV shows I currently enjoy are New Girl, Doctor Who, Modern Family, Blackish, Marco Polo, How To Get Away With Murder, Walking Dead. Older shows that I can watch again and again are Jeeves and Wooster, Coupling, Gavin and Stacy. My favorite movie is A Fish Called Wanda.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Dominic Monaghan because he’s a crazy adventurer, he could handle anything creepy crawly or deadly, and he’s a little cutie.

Alexander Skarsgard because he’s sexy as hell, also likes adventure, and his massive body could keep me warm at night.

Jem Stansfield from the BBC show Bang Goes the Theory, because he’s super smart, a crazy inventor, and he’s also pretty cute.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Greece. I’ve always wanted to go there.

Do you have any pet peeves?
My pet peeves are liars, people who are obnoxiously loud in a public place where it is inappropriate, and loud chewers and breathers. My husband says I have mouse hearing but he’s just loud!

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
My favorite foods are those that mix lots of different tastes together. So I love soups and big salads, I love Thai and Korean food. I’m an adventurous eater so there isn’t much I don’t like. Comfort foods would be my mom’s cheese pie or collard greens, my husband’s sage stuffing or pho– things that I’ve been eating for a long time and always bring good memories.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Hmm, I don’t know if I have one but I like vanilla and coconut.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I like all kinds of music. Right now I seem to be into music with a strong male lead- Tom Odell, Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Paolo Nutini, Amos Lee, and my all time fav is Chris Isaak.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
When I was a child I wanted to be a clown when I grew up…now they scare the sh*t out of me!

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  chocolate if it’s good quality, but not for ice cream
Silver or gold? silver
Apple or PC? Apple
White wine or red wine? White, can’t drink red unless it’s Lambrusco because that’s sweet like a Moscato.
Liquor or beer? ha ha- both!
Coffee or tea?  Tea unless my husband goes and gets me coffee on the weekend
Sleep in or get up early? sleep in, definitely, if I had my choice.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I’ve only ever read/written in the SVM/TB fandom. I didn’t even know fanfiction existed before 2013 when I discovered it.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Usually with music playing, in bed or on the couch. Sometimes with kids running around, though I prefer late at night when I can concentrate better.

Ever write in your PJs?
yup!

How bout naked?
I don’t think so. I have no privacy with my 3 guys so I am mostly always dressed unless the door’s locked. ;)

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Inspiration comes from my imagination or a picture I saw, something I witnessed. My Captive story was inspired by a Game of Thrones gif even though I don’t watch the show. My Shave and a Haircut story was inspired by a trip to the salon where I watched a man getting shaved. I definitely pull things from real life into my stories.

Do I put real life into my stories?
Yes, I sometimes will have a character’s favorite movie be mine, or favorite food, etc. I might give them a background I know something about so it’s easier to write.

Do you write on a schedule?
no, I fit it in whenever I have time.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I like to have a general plan but it always always changes as I write. What I find more important for me and what I spend the most time on, is having a character identity. I find that if I have thought well about my character, then whatever I come up with for them will be believeable and I will be able to keep the story on track.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
I can’t think of any. I like music when I write.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I don’t think I am that good with action. I’m also not so great with supernatural stuff. My imagination is just not there. I find romance is easier, though sex scenes are some of the toughest to write and to keep fresh and not repetitive.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Um, maybe because in this fandom, people like the vampire stories and I tend to write all human because it’s easier for me.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
For story titles, I try to think about the theme of the story and what, overall, I want to talk about. I hardly ever do chapter titles because it’s too much effort. For Getting It On, each chapter title came from the song that went with the chapter. In Bookstore, each chapter title rhymes, but I may have shot myself in the foot with that one! We’ll see!

Which character do you identify with the most?
That’s tough…I’m not sure. I tend to play around with characters a lot. I think I identify with Sookie the way I write her but I have elements of Eric too.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
My favorite to write…that’s another tough one. I really liked writing Shave, which I just finished, because writing the letters was fun and easy. I love writing the Bookstore story because I’m writing with a good friend and she is awesome and funny and she has helped me keep the story light-hearted, which I have some trouble with on my own. Concept-wise, it may be Captive, which is a departure from what I normally do but has been a good challenge.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Not often.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I have never read the SVM books. (shocking, I know!) I didn’t discover this fandom until the series was almost finished and nobody liked the ending so I decided not to start them. As far as TB, the episode that made me sit up and say, “Wow, who is that actor?” was Ep 2:9, I Will Rise Up, so I think that’s my favorite. Once I found out about Askars, I started reading fanfiction and the rest, as they say, is history!

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
It’s a toss up between being told that my characters are “real,” and being told that my stories make someone feel really good.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
If it’s ranting and juvenile, I laugh. I was kind of surprised when I first encountered some of the hate for Sookie that I got when she had her first fight with Eric in Northman’s Nanny. I sometimes get frustrated because a lot of times, the person just didn’t understand what was said vs. what was thought in the character’s head, which I guess is the downfall to first person perspective. That can be unclear if you don’t read closely. So a valid criticism, I will think about, a ranty one, I will laugh about. It doesn’t really bother me that much because most reviews are positive.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Favorite is the fact that even though the show and books are done, the fandom is still active. Least fav is that the shows and books are done and I’m afraid everything will die down now and I feel like I just found everyone! :)

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Read a lot, look up anything you are uncertain about, and just write!

Have any recommendations?
Anything on my site under the people I follow is awesome!

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
I have a wordpress site, victoryintrouble.wordpress.com and I’m on fanfiction.net under the same name. I am thinking of joining facebook but haven’t yet.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
Thank you, Kelpie! This was fun!

So yeah, I’ve linked it all up and I’m telling you…go check her out. She’s got a bunch of stories (that I still have on my to read list-seriously that list gets longer every single frickin day!) and I can’t wait! So go read and leave her love!

Author Spotlight: QuiteTheTrueLove

Hallo lovelies! I am back with another astoundingly amazing author you seriously need to check out. This chick is one of the most prolific OUAT authors…at least on my tumblr feed. That’s where I originally found her, as I was scrolling around for Captain Swan smut fics…yeah. Anyhoo, I managed to get over to ff.net and I swear I think I have most of her stuff favorited. I went on quite the reading spree with her stuff.

So yeah, she’s awesome. And you should really read what she’s got to say… :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Hey Kelly, thank you so much for asking me to do this, it’s a lot of fun and it’s always nice to be appreciated as a writer. My name is Lena, QuiteTheTrueLove on fanfiction.net and you can also find me on tumblr, there I’m Captainmcwho.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
There’s really not a lot to tell. I’m 23 yearls old, German and currently in my last semester of uni, which is why I barely have time to write anything at the moment. Or at least not as much as I used to.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
As I mentioned uni is keeping me pretty busy. I’m also an avid reader, I just had to get a new bookcase because I ran out of room for my books. I also love a bunch of TV shows and movies. If I’m not at home then I’m most likely out with my friends having a drink at my favorite pub.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My cell phone of course and lip balm.

What are some of your favorite books?
Oh boy, that reply could get long. I’ll try to narrow it down for you. For classics it’s Pride & Prejudice. John Green and Rainbow Rowell for contemporary, but I recently read It’s Not Me It’s You by Mhairi McFarlane, which was super adorable. A few of my all time favorites are The Night Circus, the Harry Potter series, The Lunar Chronicles, the Throne Of Glass series and so many more. One series that I can’t stop thinking about since reading it is the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Once Upon A Time of course. Apart from that I love The Walking Dead, Parks & Rec, New Girl, Orphan Black, House Of Cards and Sherlock. I’m watching way too many shows to be honest. My favorite movie is Pride & Prejudice (the one with Keira Knightley), I can watch that one again and again. I’m also a huge Disney fan since I’ve been a kid. Which is probably why I love OUAT so much.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Bear Grylls, because he could catch fish and make fire and do all the other survival stuff that I would need. Then maybe Dominic Monaghan, because he knows a lot about spiders and snakes and can catch them and tell me if they are poisonous or not. And Jennifer Lawrence, she seems like a lot of fun.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Amsterdam, it’s not actually that far from where I live but I never managed to go there.

Do you have any pet peeves?
I hate when people blow their nose beside me and loose wet hair is my nemesis.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Chocolate!! But I’m actually trying to go without it for a while.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
The smell of books probably. And vanilla.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I like rock music, especially alternative. But I listen to a lot of types of music. What I can’t stand is rap, that’s just not for me.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I have an orange tabby cat that is lying beside me right now.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Both
Silver or gold? Silver.
Apple or PC? PC
White wine or red wine? White wine!
Liquor or beer?
 Liquor
Coffee or tea? Tea, coffee makes me jumpy.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in!

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I mostly write Captain Swan fanfiction, but I did a few drabbles for Arrow, The Mindy Project and BBC’s Our Girl. I read Captain Swan and the occasional bookish fanfiction when I crave more than what the books gave me.

What kind of environment do you write in?
On my couch, with some music playing and a cup of tea at my side.

Ever write in your PJs?
Of course, that’s the best way to go!

How bout naked?
Hahaha, can’t say that I have. But I get a lot of ideas in the shower, does that count?

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I get inspiration from music, movies, TV shows, books and also real life. Not my own, but one of my current fics is loosely based on something a friend experienced.

Do you write on a schedule?
I tried to but it didn’t really work, real life gets in the way. Now I just write when I can find the inspiration.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I have a really rough outline for my stories and some scenes that are more detailed and I just go from there.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
No not really.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I think I’m best at writing modern alternative universes, I just like that the genre gives you more room to play with the characters. Because of that I’m not so good at writing canon universes.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Definitely smut. It’s so hard for me to know if what I’m writing is too cheesy or trashy. I always want it to be tasteful.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I don’t think that I have much of a method when it comes to coming up with story titles, but some of my stories have specific chapter titles. For example All The Voices In My Head, the chapter titles are mostly quotes from fairy tales.

Which character do you identify with the most?
When I write it’s Killian Jones We’re both romantics and fight for what we believe in. I think one thing we have in common is that we don’t give up on people we love.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
My favorite to write was You Keep Me Up All Night, it was also my most successful story. I still read some parts of it from time to time and can’t actually believe that I wrote that one.

Concept wise it’s All The Voices In My Head. A serial killer turning his victims into fairy tale characters was an idea that came to me really unexpectedly and I loves putting it into words.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
No. I’m not sure if they would understand the concept of fanfiction. It’s just something I do for me.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I’ll just stick to OUAT for  your sake, because this could get really long otherwise. My favorite episode is probably Tallahassee. Watching it made me really fall in love with Killian and Emma.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I got a lot of sweet compliments, but something I’ll never forget is someone telling me that they couldn’t stop thinking about one of my stories even when they were doing yoga. It was just too funny.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I usually ignore it. I once addressed it and it didn’t really make me feel any better. If it’s constructive criticism then I’ll try to listen to it and see if I can change something about it.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I’m only an active member in the Captain Swan fandom. My favorite part about it are the people I met and became friends with. My least favorite part is that some people feel so high and mighty and think only their opinions are valid.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Just write, write, write. Even if it’s utter shit (pardon my French). Just get it all out and try not think too much about what your readers would like, just write what you like. Don’t make it a chore.

Have any recommendations?
Under The Crimson Flag by You-drive-me-nuts-miller, but I’m sure most people in the fandom have already read it. Jill is a great friend of mine and I love her writing.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
As mentioned you can find me as Captainmcwho on tumblr, and there you can find links to my twitter, isntagram and goodreads.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
Thank you!! It was so much fun!

So yeah. Like I said, she’s awesome and her fics have this perfect blend of fic-y-ness (yeah I totally made that up) and realism that I absolutely love. :) So go read and leave her comments and love!

Author Interview: KoalaKaos

Hey lovelies! So I’m bringing you another awesome author that you need to check out. And she’s not strictly a TMI girl, either. She’s written for The Selection Trilogy as well. Not that I know what they is, but I skimmed her other stuff-and yeah it’s just as good as The Beauty is the Beast. I was intrigued when I was scrolling through ff when I caught sight of the summary and needless to say, I was not disappointed. So let’s hear from her, huh?

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
KoalaKaos

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Well, I’m a University student and am study to become a primary school teacher because I know I don’t have the ability to control a class full of teenagers. I can’t wait to be a teacher, but secretly I harbour the dream of throwing it all away and pursuing the life of an author. Who knows maybe I still might.

I have two brothers, one older and one younger and three dogs. Four if only my brother would work harder to convince my mum to get a chocolate Labrador.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
At the moment, I’m obsessed with watching ice hockey. I’m kind of a sports nut. I’m from Australia and we have some very irregular sports that I’m guessing a lot of people haven’t heard of before, but where I live, our country’s football is like a religion. Not to mention my love of cricket, trust me once you know what’s going on it’s definitely not boring, no matter what people try and tell you. I generally always have sports on in the background when I’m writing because I think I find the commentators soothing.

Of course I’m also trying to read all the books I can possibly get my hands on.

What are some things you never leave home without?
A book, never leave the house without a book. I need it for whenever I feel the world just isn’t living up to my expectations. I always have a pen and a notebook. I have quite the collection of both because I love to handwrite a lot of my stories because it feels more tangible and real to me than if I’m sitting at a computer all day. I’m notorious for forgetting my phone at home or just opting out of bringing it. I love to watch people and if I’m glued to my phone I feel like I’ve missed out on the world.

What are some of your favorite books?
Oh wow, the list is literally endless. I think thats every book lovers problem but I think I’m going to try and narrow it down to five. I think that’s manageable. In no particular order, lets start with one of my more recent loves. “The Rosie Project,’ and its sequel, ‘The Rosie Effect,’ by GraemeSimsion. This was a real cute love story that had me in stitches to the point where I had people on the train needing to know what I was reading because it was making me smile so much. I’m definitely counting that as one, it’s a series. Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite authors of all time and I love all of her books so I’m going to tell you two of my absolute favourites from her. ‘Where Rainbows end,’ which I think was recently made into a movie. I never saw it because I knew it could never do one of my all time favourite books justice. I adore it. A more recent one from her which I absolutely fell in love with was ‘How to fall in Love.’ Okay I think that counts as two so I guess I have only two left. So much pressure.  Okay, lets go Non-fiction for this one, ‘The Missing Ink,’ by Philip Hensher discusses a favourite topic of mine, the lost art of handwriting.

Finally, a book I supremely enjoy is ‘Sophie’s World,’ by Jostein Gardner. I believe it has everything to do with my love of everything Alice in Wonderland.

I could go on forever with every book I have every read because each one of them had something that I loved, no matter how bad they were sometimes. I have two bookshelves which have exploded onto every surface of my room and find it almost impossible to walk out of a bookshop without buying two to three books. I would tell you which book I am reading right now but there are too many because I don’t like to limit myself to exploring only one world at a time. I’ll read anything and I’ll do anything to be reading.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Due to my aforementioned love of sport you will rarely find me sitting down and watching a tv show. Honestly I’m not sure I have the attention span. I’ll generally be reading a book or writing whilst watching it. But I do have a few favourites. I love, ‘Once upon a time,’ it’s about fairytales, how could I not? Peter Pan is my absolute favourite character. I can’t even explain the love I have for that character. He just makes evil so appealing. My all time favourite show is of course, ‘Friends,’ I just can’t get enough of Monica and Chandler. I love classics like ‘Bewitched,’ and the ‘Nanny.’ Currently, I’m making my way through ‘Modern Family’.

Movies, that’s easy, anything Disney. Currently, my favourite movie is ‘Big Hero Six,’ I cried because I laughed so hard. ‘How to train your dragon,’ one and two, ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ anything with Reese Whiterspoon really. ‘Easy A,’ or anything where Emma Stone in there and my all time favourite is more of a musical, ‘Annie,’ the older ones not the new one which I’m afraid to say was missable. Don’t even get me started on how unhappy I was with that movie.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
John Oliver because his humour would definitely help me to pass the time. He may be useless at everything pertaining to survival but at least I would die laughing. Chris Hemsworth, my countryman, because I’m sure he would be helpful for many, many things. The third is more fictional but I would love it if the Mad Hatter was there. No reason other than being his awesome self.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I desperately want to go to Ireland and Scotland. I adore their accents and their culture. They both tell the most beautiful stories about love and I’m nothing if not a hopeless romantic.

Do you have any pet peeves?
Useless questions, those obvious ones your parents always ask you that you just really don’t want to answer or just pointing out the obvious just to start a conversation. Sometimes, silence is definitely preferred.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Cookies!!! I love cookies. I bake all kinds of cookies and whenever I don’t know what to eat I always turn to cookies. I make the cookie monster’s love for cookies look tame.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Eucalyptus. Obviously being from Australia almost everywhere you go there are Eucalyptus trees and there isn’t another scent that I love more. After a long trip all I want to do is go for a walk and soak up the Australian sun and smell the calming scent of eucalyptus. Never gets old.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I love Sara Barielles music, Gabrielle Aplin, Christina Grimmie, Melee, One Big World, One republic, Imagine Dragons, Bastille and Fun. My favourite Australian artists are Missy Higgins and Sheppard.

I’m sorry to all you One Direction lovers out there but I can’t stand anything they produce. I just can’t handle it. Same with you Beiber. I recently discovered a dislike for Taylor Swift whom I used to love before she changed her sound. I miss her old stuff. I can’t stand rap or hip hop or any of that really loud, thumping dance music that all sounds the same. Kind of makes me want to saw my ears off.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? Apple
White wine or red wine? Neither, I’m not a big drinker (a more apt description of my drinking habits is non-existent.)
Liquor or beer? Neither
Coffee or tea? TEA!!!
Sleep in or get up early? I want to say get up early but generally I always sleep in.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I do love reading and writing for The Selection trilogy but the Mortal Instruments comes in a close second.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Any kind, it doesn’t really matter for me. Just really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want loud and chaotic, or maybe writing outside. Sometimes, I opt to go to the library because I always feel more comfortable surrounded by books, although, sometimes that can be very distracting because all I want to do is read every book there.

Ever write in your PJs?
Always, most of the time I’m writing at two or three in the morning so the majority of my writing has been done in my PJ’s

How bout naked?
Nope, always clothed :)

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Everywhere, driving I often wonder how I have gotten places because I’ve been too busy think up another story. I watch people, listen to conversations, start insane ones whenever I can. A lot of my characters have traits I have seen in others or even myself. I believe the only way to make a character truly believable is to take something from yourself and expand from there. Then you have to put yourself in their mind. Sometimes I’ve been so deep in a character’s mind that I forget. I was writing a particularly angry scene once and stopped midway to got to work and couldn’t understand why I was so angry or even what I was angry at until I realised I had forgotten to leave that character’s emotions on the page.

Do I put real life into my stories?
Sure, I think it’s almost impossible not to allow real life to sneak into a piece otherwise it could never be relatable for the reader.

Do you write on a schedule?
I have no schedule, generally I can’t get through the day without writing something otherwise it feels like my mind might overload. I’m not always writing something worthy to be read but sometimes I just need to get the words out there before they start to drive me insane.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Generally, I get an idea for a story and I just need to put a scene down on paper. It’s usually the middle of the story that I get hit with and then I build the story from there. I work my way back to the beginning and might have a vague idea of how it will end but its fluid and always changing as the story progresses

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope, I write whenever and wherever I can. My only habit is more of a general one, but I drink gallons of tea. I have three tea pots and well over twenty mugs, most from Disneyland and Disney world.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I cannot write any sort of murder mysteries. I remember I had to write one in year nine but I don’t ever remember writing it and I have no idea what it was about. I think I got a pretty awesome grade for it but it was not an enjoyable experience for me. I love writing about love and overcoming insurmountable obstacles because that’s what I like to read about.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
I hate disappointing my readers by not being able to update frequently.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Titles for stories generally hit as I’m writing it or sometimes the title comes first and then the story.

Which character do you identify with the most?
I have no idea, I guess they all have a little bit of something which I can identify with.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
‘Altered Dreams,’ in The Selection Fandom because I have invested so much in it. As those who have read it will know it is a sequel to the original story I wrote whilst waiting for, at the time, the final book in the series, ‘The One.’ I enjoy writing it so much because most of the characters are my own. There are of course those from the original books but they are much older as I’m writing about their children. I also love it because it is based off another story’s themes, my favourite, Cinderella. I do love fairytales.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
No, never. I’d feel ridiculous talking to my family because I don’t really trust that I’m any good. I talk to one friend about my writing but I never let anyone I know read it.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
My favourite book in a series is generally the first because it sets everything up. So, I love the first book in the selection trilogy. I must have read it ten times before the second came out. Same with the Mortal Instruments, until that ending and I wondered what kind of book I had stumbled across. That had me going insane until I could read the next book.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
That’s a hard one because there are so many supportive and beautiful people out there who give me awesome encouragement but I’ve got to say whenever people tell me they’ve been discussing it with their friends I almost lose my mind. It’s unreal to think that there are people out there actually discussing what I’ve written.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I think I definitely need the criticism, I need to know what I’m doing wrong. As much as I appreciate the beautiful reviews about the piece I think I may appreciate getting the more constructive negatives ones more because they stop me from becoming a lazy author which is a really easy mode to slip into. If the people reading my story are constantly asking me questions about why I’ve done something or why a character has acted a certain way or flat out telling me that something doesn’t make sense I take it on board and try and figure out how to either fix my mistake by reworking something or sometimes I have been known to justify myself. However, at that point I know I’ve already made a mistake because if I need to justify something it means I haven’t written it well enough to let the words speak for themselves.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
In general, I just love that people are brave enough to post their stories in any fandom.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Write! Pick up a pen, boot up your computer and write anything, everything and all that comes in between. Dream, I can’t tell you the amount of hours in a single day I spend daydreaming about alternate stories and far off places. I lose hours staring out my window lost in a world completely of my own making. Never dismiss a story because you think it’s too unreal or no one wants to read it. Who cares, write it for yourself then, write because you want to read it. Take inspiration from everything and then let your mind run wild. There are no limits. This isn’t maths, there are no rules to the worlds you can create other than the ones you choose. Never stop writing and more importantly never stop dreaming. I’m just like all of you, I’m not published but maybe one day with the right story I could be. At least I can dream it anyway :)

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Umm, I’m not really into social media. I have no idea what tumblr is or any of the other things, so the only real place to see me is on Fanfiction, where my stories are.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

There you have it. She’s such a sweetie and you should really go check her out. :) Leave her some love and reviews, cause-ya know-authors thrive off of that. :)

Author Spotlight: deGorgeous

Hey darlins! So I originally found this lovely chica on tumblr. And I followed…some kinda link to find her ff.net account. And I was NOT disappointed. The first story of hers I read, believe it or not, was Theme Song (check out the spotlight here). And I laughed SO hard. I’ve since read a bunch more of her stuff (keep an eye out for more spotlights) and I just…just can’t. She’s so awesome.

So yeah, let me stop rambling so you can hear-or read-what she has to say-er, type.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
My name’s Genelle and my pen name is deGorgeous (on FF.net) and gentlesleaze (on AO3 and Tumblr)

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I was born in New York and am currently living there. I work at an ad agency as a graphic designer. I’ve been writing fan fiction on-and-off since I was about 13.

I’m either working or editing videos

Movies: Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Sabrina, Singing in the Rain, Inception

Bear Grylls (because he’d keep us alive), Christian Bale and Colin O’Donoghue (because they are two of my favorite actors)

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Vancouver probably, just to see all the forests

Do you have any pet peeves?
People smacking their lips, obnoxious laughter, people not knowing basic subway etiquette

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Arepas, Colombian bread in general, Beef Rice Bowl, Fruity Pebbles cereal

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
The smell of my wet hair

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
Music I like: Electronic/Rock
Music I can’t stand: Reggaeton

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I used to collect quarters and have all the 50 states

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla
Silver or gold? Gold
Apple or PC? Both
White wine or red wine? Either
Liquor or beer? Liquor
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
Lately I’ve written mostly for and have read fics for Once Upon A Time

What kind of environment do you write in?
Either on my lunch break at work, or in bed on my laptop

Ever write in your PJs?
Especially in my pajamas

How bout naked?
Haven’t done that one yet

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I usually like to write in-universe stuff. If I ever write an AU or something non-canon I still try to remain as IC as possible, so I’d say my inspiration comes mostly from the source material or any other tropes/scenarios I’d like to see play out.

Do you put real life into your stories?
Sometimes. If a character is going through something I have a frame of reference for I’ll maybe inject some of my own insight. More often than not though I try to just understand a given’s character mindset.

Do you write on a schedule?
If I’ve promised someone a prompt then yeah I schedule it out to I meet the deadline. Otherwise I make my own deadline so that I actually get it done.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I write out notes and a general outline. If ideas come to me during the day or while I’m writing another section, I jot it down so I don’t forget.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I guess drama. I’d probably be bad at writing full-on smut.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Describing a scene. I’m a visual person so I usually have an idea of what a given scene would look like as I’m writing it but I struggle with translating that without compromising the pacing or being repetitive.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I try to keep titles short but still relating directly back to the story itself. Like a feeling or a phrase that’s repeated.

Which character do you identify with the most?
There are a lot of characters from lots of shows/movies I watch but I haven’t ever really written anything using characters I relate to, except maybe Regina from Once Upon A Time.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I like writing one-shots and vignettes. I like keeping my writing sparse and efficient. On The Road was probably my favorite to write. Concept wise, my favorite might be Spot The Difference since I liked the idea of writing about a pairing through another character’s viewpoint.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
I used to but now I mostly just keep it to myself

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
My favorite episodes of Once Upon A Time are Skin Deep and Good Form.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I love when people go in depth or appreciate the nuances in what I had written. Generally as long as the review is enthusiastic I’m happy.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I don’t get it so much now but I used to get it a lot when I first started. I didn’t really take those to heart but just tried to improve my writing based on my own standards.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
My favorite part of the OUAT fandom: the freak outs after every little development or spoiler

My least favorite part: how isolating it can sometimes feel and the ‘popular’ members being the voice

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t flat-out write what the characters’ are thinking or doing. Don’t summarize events just for the sake of setting the scene. Think about how the characters actually would say something and their speech patterns. Write stuff that you yourself would want to read.

Have any recommendations?
The more well-known fic writers on Tumblr are actually really good and their writing is usually concise and simple enough to get a feel on how to improve your own stuff.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
On Tumblr

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So there you have it. She’s awesome and adorable and funny and you seriously need to go check her out. And leave her reviews and love and comments and all that happy stuff. :) Thanks lovelies!

Author Spotlight: Lara Kingsley

Woo hoo! I have another awesome author for y’all to check out! I’ve been delving into the recesses of my fanfic.net favorites to get back into the TB/SVM/OUAT swing of things and this chick caught my eyes immediately and I was like “AH! YES!!!”. And thus began my descent into the madness of re-reading her Dead Briefs series. :)

She’s seriously so frickin’ sweet it’s like…ridiculous. And talented…if she hadn’t mentioned it, I would never have known English wasn’t her first language. Any of the very few mistakes I happened to notice I figured were autocorrect fuckups that she didn’t catch. And yeah, I’m the queen of ducking autocorrect. So yeah. Like I said, mega talent here .I’m gonna leave you to read what she has to say and I’ll see you at the bottom. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
I’m Cynthia or better known on the web as Lara Kingsley.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Well I’m a 29, nearly 30 year old eternal single girl from Quebec City in Canada. I’m a lifelong princess (I do live in a walled city with a castle after all!), the oldest of 3 kids. I’m very closed to my family (my parents live on the first floor of our building and I live on the third floor) especially my 18 year old baby brother and my dad (I’m a daddy’s little girl). Oh and I’m French Canadian.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Well I work (a girl’s gotta pay her rent, right?). I’m a memory maker or as most people usually call it a Front Desk clerk/Concierge at a hotel in my hometown. When I’m not behind the desk at the hotel, I’m either exploring my historical hometown (there’s always new stuffs to discover), reading romance novel, binge watching TV shows or playing Assassin’s Creed on my PS3.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My tab. That was the greatest gift to myself I ever bought. I’m not an iPhone or Android phone type of person (my cell phone is actually an older generation Samsung flip keyboard), so my tab is easier to carry around than a laptop.

What are some of your favorite books?
I gotta confess that I’m a huge romance novel reader. My bookcases are full with historical romance novels. Favourite books? There’s the classics, pretty much any Jane Austen books (especially Pride & Prejudice) and Jane Eyre. I also really love the Outlander series by Diana Gaballdon. Of course I loved the SVM (the early one of course, CH really f*cked things up in the end). These days I’m re-reading a vampire series by a Canadian author, Lynsay Sands, the Argeneau vampires.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Even though in the end it disappointed me, I’m a Trubie at heart. I used to be a huge Stargate fan and a Lost fan when they were on the air. Right now I’m addicted to Outlander, Jane the Virgin, Reign (even though it’s historically inaccurate) and Game of Thrones. As for movies, I’m a geek… The Star Wars Original Trilogy is a favourite of mine. I also love comedy (Hot Fuzz, Robin Hood Men in Tights, just to name a few) and Disney princesses’ movies.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
This one is obvious! Alexander Skarsgärd, of course! Oh, I can bring three? Liam Hemsworth and Sam Heughan! These three are my yummy triumvirate ;) And the three of them are tall, strong men so they’d be able to protect me and help me survive.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I’m a history buff so anywhere in Europe, but if I had to choose one… Great Britain would be my choice. Incorporate both England and Scotland ;)

Do you have any pet peeves?
People who argue even when they know they’re totally wrong.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I’m French Canadian so… Poutine! For those not familiar with it it’s French fries with cheese curds and gravy. Oh and cheesecake! Lots and lots of cheesecake!

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Vanilla and lavender, they remind me of both my grandmothers who sadly aren’t with us anymore.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I’m a classically trained musician (I was in a music program in high school and played the trumpet) so I love classical music – my colleagues at work don’t and I bug them all the time by putting classical music on Songza in the hotel lobby. Otherwise I listen pretty much anything from Elvis to Lady Gaga.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I have four tattoos and one on my back says ‘We aim to please’. Yep it’s a quote from Fifty Shades of Grey, but that’s not why I have it.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate
Silver or gold?  Gold, Not yellow but either white or pink
Apple or PC? PC
White wine or red wine? Red
Liquor or beer?  I don’t drink a lot, but when I do I prefer liquor, hard one.
Coffee or tea?  Hi, my name is Cynthia and I’m a coffee addict
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
True Blood and SVM, of course. I also read lots of Veronica Mars fics, some Once Upon A Time (though for this fandom I stick with Gremma fic even if I’m also a Captain Swan fan) fics and Pride and Prejudice fics.

What kind of environment do you write in?
On my couch with music playing in the background.

Ever write in your PJs?
Mostly in my PJs. First thing I do when I come back from work is take off my uniform and put on comfy PJs

How bout naked?
I don’t think so! I have huge windows in my living room with very thin curtains. Wouldn’t want my neighbours to catch a peek ;)

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Most of it come from my need to fix thing. Dead Briefs came up because I wanted to rewrite True Blood with a smarter Sookie with a different upbringing. As for Your Presence Still Lingers Here I just wanted to fix the f*ckery that the writers made.

Do you put real life into your stories?
Not really, but my upcoming fic, Do Not Disturb, will be set in the hospitality industry and some of Sookie’s background will be based on myown past work experiences. Some of my former colleagues  will even make appearance as  True Blood characters.

Do you write on a schedule?
I try to get one chapter a week, but with real life and  work…

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I plan, a lot. For Dead Briefs I have what I call a Bible. Since every chapter is a Tome and everything is planned in advance.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Superstitions? Not really. As for rituals…. I always write with music. The type depend on what type of chapter I’m writing. For the chapter with action I go with classic rock, for scene that are more sensual I go with ballads or Moonlight Sonata

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Action scenes, I have a hard time writing those.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Even though I’ve read my fair share of bodice reapers, writing sex scenes still makes me nervous

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Not really. In fact Dead Briefs was known as True Blood Project for a couple of chapters until I asked my readers on fanfiction.net for help (I was so eager to write it that I didn’t even think of a title). As for YPSLH, the title comes from My Immortal by Evanescence

Which character do you identify with the most?
It’a a mix. For the longest time I’ve felt like an outsider, like I didn’t quite fit in  with both my friends and family, so I can identify with Sookie in that aspect. But I also have an old soul, as if I was born in a different era, so I can identify with Eric, Pam and even Bill (yeah, it hurt me to admit that).

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Dead Briefs Tome 1, since it was the beginning of the saga. But Tome 7 (yeah, it’s not  writen yet but I already know what will happen in it) will probably be one of my favourite.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
No. They know I write fanfic, but I don’t really talk about it.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
For True Blood I’ll say season 4 I Wish I Was The Moon. For Outlander (my new favourite show) it’s easy, The Wedding.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Well being chosen for a fanfic spotlight by you ;) And just everytime someone says how much they like my stories.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I take it as constructive criticism.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
The rabid Bill fans that think that he can do no wrong.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t be afraid to publish your work. Don’t do what I did for a long time.

Have any recommendations?
Anything California Kat writes. Also the work of Gyllene, Meridian, Mistress Jessica and of course Kelpie!

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
There’s  my wordpress page, but I also have a fanfiction.net profile, a fictionpad page and a twcs page.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
The pleasure is all mine ;)

So there you have it lovelies! Like I said, super sweet girl and mega talented. I’m halfway through Dead Briefs Tome 2 (as of when I’m writing this) and I’m going to start on  some of her other stuff after that. So, follow the links above and leave her some love. You totally won’t regret anything you read of hers!

Author Spotlight-ish: MissRissa81

Hey lovelies!!! So this isn’t technically an author spotlight…BUT (and it’s a really big butt-like mine) this chick is the absolute BOMB and deserves some credit for all she does. She does tons and tons for the Kittyinaz beta group, is a prereader for a shit ton of us author, gives advice, is a wonderful sounding board and an amazing friend…shall I go on or do y’all get the idea?!? I mean, seriously I can go on and on and on for like ever cause she’s amazing!

She doesn’t write much-if I remember correctly she’s written a few one shots…but she’s incredibly active in the TB/SVM community.

I can’t even tell you how grateful I am that she’s in my life. And y’all should be eternally grateful as well because she’s the reason I’ve started getting back into the TB/SVM universe. :) Okay, I’ll stop rambling and just let her do the talking.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Lets see, I’m Charissa and I’m most commonly known as Rissa, or MissRissa81.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Well I’m a nurse, and a crazy cat lady, well maybe not crazy…yeah I can’t even type that with a straight face!! I work as a care giver for Grandma, who all my friends simply know as Grandma! I’m almost always reading, cause let’s face it, I’m a bit of an update whore!!

What do you do with yourself when you’re not pre-reading and being the generally awesomeness that is you? What is a day in your life like?
Well I pretty much am always reading! I keep pretty busy between being grandma’s chauffeur and getting “emergency” calls from my 13 yr old niece! LOL! I I spend the rest of my time begging my writer friends to give me more!!!

What are some things you never leave home without?
Well the most obvious would be my phone, as im currently at the salon with Grandma and answering on my phone LOL!! I also have my Kindle within reach ALWAYS!! And I am never without my Burt’s Bees lip balm!

What are some of your favorite books?
I adore the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the first 9 books from SVM, Immortals After Dark series, Harry Potter, The Dark Tower Series, and pretty much anything written for me!! ;)

Favorite TV shows and movies?
As much as the last few seasons of TB killed a little bit of my soul, I still love it, OUaT is a serious addiction for me, I love TVD and The Originals, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and I’m currently binge watching Sons of Anarchy!!! And it rocks my socks!!

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Alex of course!!! Colin!!!! Charlie Hunnam!!! I think the why is beyond obvious!!

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Only one?? Well I want to see lots of places, I need to see more of the world!! I want to see the oceans, and Europe and Australia, and Florida!!!

Do you have any pet peeves?
It’s not so much a pet peeve, but it is a little OCD of me, but my foods can’t touch!! And I just hate it when people are rude for no reason!

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I love food in general, but I do not do fish and seafood!! I am a huge fan of Chinese, and Mexican, and Italian, oh and creole, but I can’t handle spicy foods, so I’m a walking contradiction!! And my mom’s meatloaf is the best!!

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Hmmm, probably vanilla or cinnamon spice

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I love most alternative music, and almost all mid to late 90’s music makes me sing a long without me even realizing it, and I have to admit that Taylor Swift is one of my guilty pleasures!! I’m not a huge fan of death metal, and some rap I cou do without!!

What are some of your hobbies?
I knit poorly, I am working on improving my cooking skills, with my odyssey thru cooking!!!

What makes you tick? What motivates you on any given day?
Most days my whole goal is to get thru the day without falling on my ass!! But for me it’s always my family, both the one I was born into, and the one that I’ve created with friends!!

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I’ve been hit by two cars while walking, but have never broken a bone, I swear it’s a super power, I’ve been told it’s not! LOL

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? seeing as I live on my phone, Apple but my laptop is a PC
White wine or red wine? White
Liquor or beer? Liquor
Coffee or tea?  coffee, but it’s got to be flavored
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in!!!!!!

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for reading?
My fave fandoms are OUaT and SVM/TB and I really love when new updates arrive in my inbox, then I get really sad when I’ve finished it. I do enjoy a good crossover too, so I’m pretty easy to please!

What kind of environment do you read and work your beta/group leader/facebook group magic in?
Well for me I do everything on my phone, so as long as I can sit down for a few mins I’m golden!!

Ever work in your PJs?
Only every day!! ;)

How bout naked?
it’s been known to happen!!

What are some of the jobs you do in the Facebook groups you’re a part of?
Really I just consider myself a big update whore and throw myself into whatever needs to be done so I get more updates!! LOL! No but seriously, I am the Continuity Beta for my dear Kittyinaz, I stharted betaing for her amazing Tin Man story and then found that I was too focused on all the stories, so she asked if I would take over as her CB, that just means I get to play with all the stories!!!!! I make timelines, and make sure that any question that is asked has an answer, or a way of finding one!! I try and make myself available when I’m needed! I also jumped right into being the groups welcome wagon, as I feel everyone should get a full greeting!! I pride myself on basically being a cheerleader and a sounding board for all my friends, and a prereader extraordinaire!!

Which character from your fandoms do you identify with the most?
Probably my fave character to read is Eric Northman, not because I’m even remotely capable of relating to a 1000 yr old Viking vampire, but because he’s such a dynamic character and CH really let the ball drop in how she dealt with him!!

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
Let’s see, for OUaT I love any episode where we get to see Captain Swan together, the season 3 finale is still one of my faves!! For SVM/TB I liked watching/reading the developing relationship between Eric and Sookie, the easy way they were with each other was refreshing, until she-who-must-not-be-named decided to kill everything good she created!!

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Right now it’s the lack of updates!! I’m super greedy and can never get enough, I always want more!!!

Which authors do you absolutely need more of? And how do you go about…inspiring them?
Well this list is long…you, Mistress Jessica, Meridian, Bertie Bott, Kittyinaz, California Kat, Queen of Area Five!!! Some of them I outright beg for updates and lovely little presents!!!

Uh…what would we do without you?!?!?!
Probably hear the word MORE a lot less!! ;)

How do you always stay so nice and positive and friendly and just generally awesome?
It must be the awesome booster I take daily!! I try to find the positives in everything I can, and hope others do too!

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
If you have an idea and it won’t let you go, you clearly should be writing!!

Have any recommendations?
Again this one is a long list so basically I find/stalk an author, then I read everything they’ve written, I beg for updates and find my next victim!! Bwahahahaha!!!

And lastly, where can all your rabid stalkers find you?
Well I do have a WordPress site, not that there’s much there, but feel free to stalk me at www.missrissa81.wordpress.com

Anything else you want to tell us? Anything at all??
Let’s see, I hate fish and seafood (sorry darlin but it’s true) and I’ve been hit by a few cars while walking, but have never broken a bone!! I personally think it’s like a super power, you know like I’m invincible!!! I’ve been told however that I just can’t walk!! LOL!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

Yeah, so there ya go! Like I said, she’s amazing at everything she does…and I  have no idea how she does everything she does. Absolute amazeballs! So go leave her love and tell her if you have a story you want updated—she’s like magic at getting authors to write! :)
