Author Spotlight: Hamsiidris

Hey all! I have a new author for you to check out. :) She writes for TMI and Percy Jackson and I’ve already spotlighted one of her fics. That story literally had me busting out laughing in the middle of IKEA one day-no joke. I got the weirdest looks.

Anyhoo, I’ll let her talk and of course check her out and leave her love. Thanks lovelies!

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Hamsiidris – well. that’s my pen name anyway. (Although my real is in there somewhere…)

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Hmm… Well, I’m a British teenager who spends way too much reading, fangirling over fictional characters and mindlessly browsing the internet. I’ve lived on 3 continents (and 4 countries), and I don’t like spiders, or enclosed spaces. Yup, that’s me.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Well, given that procrastinating (when I should be doing homework, or at least writing a new chapter for fanfiction) is one of my hobbies, I should have a lot of free time, but… Eh. Anyway, I spend what free time I do have reading, drawing, playing football… I love music, too, and I play flute and piano – and frequently get yelled at to play quieter.

What are some things you never leave home without?
Well, I’m generally really disorganised and forgetful, so there are many things that I do leave home without, but… I guess I’ve always got my phone on me, so I can a.) pretend to text in order to get out of awkward situations b.) listen to music so I’m not forced to engage in awkward situations and c.) generally be antisocial. I also often carry a pen, for no apparent reason, and multiple hair ties, as they always seem to be snapping on me.

What are some of your favorite books?
Well, if you hadn’t already guessed, the Mortal Instruments (and the Infernal Devices) happen to be my life, but other than that I like The Hunger Games, The Stormlight Archive, The Maze Runner, Cherub, Throne of Glass… Yeah. Harry Potter and Percy Jackson will always be old favourites, though (and I totally still have the biggest crush on Percy – I mean, honestly, who wouldn’t? That boy is perfect).

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Sherlock, obviously, because Benedict Cumberbatch is literally perfection, but I also love Teen Wolf (Stiles Stilinski is life). I also like Supernatural, but I’m such a wimp that I can’t watch it on my own at night, so I’m kind of tragically behind on that one. Favourite movie…? That changes pretty much every time I watch a new one; I can’t pick.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Um… I’d have to say Daniel James Howell, because he is my life, and I feel like I’d kind of have to bring Phil along too. I mean, we can’t separate them, can we? As for the third one, well… Ugh this is hard. Jennifer Lawrence, because a.) she’s awesome and b.) she can Katniss us out of the situation.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
For some reason, I’ve always loved the idea of going to Venice…

Do you have any pet peeves?
Oh, too many to count. In fact, I think I have an unnaturally extensive list of pet peeves, ranging from people who are too perfect for their own good and make me feel inadequate to people touching my knees. Don’t ask. Just don’t. Capellas are private, people.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Uh… Chocolate. On both accounts. (What do you mean it’s not a food? You eat it, don’t you?)

I guess in terms of meals I’d say pasta or pizza. I’m a boring person, what can I say?

What’s your favorite scent – one that says “home” to you?
Well, we’ve lived abroad loads, and one of the things I always loved about coming back to the UK was the smell of, I don’t know, dampness and…”freshness” in the morning after it had rained. I don’t know how to explain it, but it smells amazing, and it definitely reminds me of “home.”

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
The Arctic Monkeys and Fall Out Boy are some of my favourite bands, and ones that I listen to pretty much on repeat. I also like (somewhat more strangely) listening to Yiruma – a Korean composer – and attempting to play his songs on the piano. Oh, and Pentatonix – they’re so talented and just…incredible.

As for stuff that I hate… Justin Bieber? Yeah. I also don’t particularly like Iggy Azalea; I don’t hate her, but… Let’s just say I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate all the way.
Silver or gold? Silver. I don’t know why, I’ve just always preferred it.
Apple or PC? Apple, I guess…
White wine or red wine? I don’t drink…
Liquor or beer? …yet. I’m not old enough.
Coffee or tea?  Coffee. I don’t dislike tea, but… Meh.
Sleep in or get up early? Two years ago, I definitely would have said get up early, but now… Well. That’s a different story. LET ME SLEEP.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices obviously. I’ve been kind of too terrified of descending into the deep dark hole of Phanfictions, so I’ve generally steered clear of the Phandom.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Um, comfy, I guess (aka my bed or the sofa, usually bundled in a blanket).

Ever write in your PJs?
Yeah, most of the time. I don’t actually write that late, because I normally just can’t be bothered and end up writing nonsensically, but on weekends I’ll happily spend all day in my PJs, just writing.

How bout naked?
Nope, haven’t tried that one. Who knows. Maybe someday.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I do – like, if something funny happens, I’ll make a (mental) note of it, so I can use it in my writing. I also get inspiration from other writers, mostly unintentionally. I mean, a couple years ago, I planned out this “great” story, before realising that I literally just written down the plot for Legend. I mean, I usually try to steer clear of that kind of thing, but it often ends up happening by accident.

Do you write on a schedule?
No.

*cringe*

I know I definitely should, as I ALWAYS procrastinate, but I feel like schedules end up pressuring me, so I feel like I’m just writing for the sake of it, instead of actually trying to write something good. I mean, I’ll always make sure that it’s decent enough to post, but I feel like I write a lot better without the stress.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Noo, I’m not really a planner in that sense at all, which is odd considering that, in real life, I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to planning. But yeah. I normally have a basic idea, and then just kind of go with it, but it usually ends up changing so much from what I had originally sketched out that I just kind of give up trying to plan and just let things happen. I mean, I have an idea of the beginning and the end, but very little planning goes into individual chapters.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
No, not really. Well, other than the “ritual” that involves ceremoniously reading each of my works to my little sister before determining whether they’re good enough to continue with/post or not.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I enjoy writing kind of humorous realistic fiction, I used to love writing kind of trashy fantasy and sci fi, so I guess those are a lot easier for me. I feel like Romance is kind of my weakness, as I…*cough* haven’t had much *cough* experience with it, but…yeah. I also always kind of feel weird writing it, but I also feel weird not writing it, so… It just happens, and I hope for the best.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Again, definitely the romance.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
No. Some of my chapter titles are really stupid too, as I came up with them at one in the morning when I was desperately trying to post my chapter before I could finally fall asleep. Yeah, I just kind of summarise the events of the chapter in a couple of words… It’s not a great system, and if you want advice on that kind of thing, I’d turn to Queen Smim, who always has flawless chapter titles (along with everything else).

Which character do you identify with the most?
Hmm… I feel like, in terms of personality, I’m quite similar to Simon, in that I’m kind of nerdy and fairly nice, and I also love and totally get his sense of humour. The only thing about him that I really disagree with is the fact that he likes cats.

My favourite character, however, is Will Herondale. But that’s another story.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I guess City of Trouble (another stupid name. Nice one, H) is the only one that I’ve really stuck with so far, so I guess that, by default, makes it my favourite. I have other ideas that I’m toying with at the moment, some of which I actually like more than CoT, but I guess it’s hard to judge that until I’ve actually started writing it.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
My little sister is my mini editor. Other than her, no way. My parents haven’t read anything that I’ve written since about Year 8.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
City of Glass…I think. As for the Infernal Devices, their all too incredible for me to choose.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Hands down, the best review I’ve ever gotten was from a certain unnamed person, who told me that my fanfic was the “best thing they’d ever written.” My friends and I had a good laugh about that one.

In all seriousness, though, I love all of my followers/reviewers, and it’s a huge compliment that they’re even reading my stuff. The best compliments, though, are the detailed, thoughtful ones that actually compliment my writing on its own, in a way. I mean, stealing Cassie Clare’s characters and putting them through some funny scenarios doesn’t take much, and the writing is the hard part, so it really makes my day/month/year when people actually compliment my writing.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Honestly, I’m a pretty sensitive person, so my general strategy is to just ignore it and hope it goes away – which isn’t good, I know. I mean, if it’s positive, constructive criticism, I don’t mind, and I’ll take it in my stride and try to work with it. If it’s just negative, or kind of mean, then it affects me more. I mean, I’ve even deleted a story because of a piece of particularly harsh criticism – although it was more to do with the fact that I realised that they were right, and I’d only written a couple of chapters anyway. I did start to rewrite the story, though, bearing what they’d said in mind. As I’ve probably mentioned, I tend to get worked up over little things, which I probably shouldn’t.

On the whole, though, I really haven’t had to deal with a lot of criticism, especially not with City of Trouble, and what criticism I have had has actually been really helpful and constructive, so… Thanks guys!

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
My favourite part is definitely the characters. I mean, what with Will and Jace… There’s just too much hotness to deal with. I also really love how much the fandom loves them. I mean, they can start mini wars, but it’s all good fun. The variety of the characters is also amazing, and I love how creative people are (in fanfictions) with the characters and backstories.

Unlike some fandoms, I actually think that the Mortal Instruments fans are really nice, supportive and…united? It’s pretty amazing.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Yeah, just, um… Write, I guess. And believe in yourself (ultimate cheesiness, I know). That sounds stupid, but sometimes you’ll work hard on a story or idea, and just not have the confidence to actually post it, or even start writing it. Just go for it – you can always change it later, or just abandon it if you don’t think the idea works for you. But don’t let that story go unwritten.

Also GRAMMAR. This may sound kind of odd, and a little obvious, but I’ve read so many fanfictions that would have been incredible if the authors had used better grammar or spelling. I mean, as long as it looks neat and reads well, you should be fine, but you don’t want to have a fantastic idea, and ruin it for your readers by not using quotation marks.

Have any recommendations?
Just any of the books that I said were my favourites, I guess. Also Sherlock. If you haven’t watched Sherlock, you haven’t lived.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Well,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
No problem. Thanks for having me!

I’m linking her ff.net profile here since it’s not above. But otherwise, yeah…bout it. She’s really sweet and funny and her writing is incredibly real. I just love it. So go check her out. Thanks darlins!

Author Spotlight: itssarahndipity

Hey darlins! I have an awesome chick for y’all to check out.  I found her on the-what else-Captain Swan Forever Facebook page (seriously that’s where I find all my OUAT stuff lately!) and I was totally intrigued by the summary they posted.

Well, I was not at ALL disappointed. And-on top of the awesome fic she’s working on-she’s a sweetie. :) So read on and let her talk cause I’m kinda boring.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
My name’s Sarah, and my pen name on AO3 is itssarahndipity ☺

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m a Canadian university student who adores chocolate, tea, classical music, and my dog Calvin.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Usually studying, two thirds of the year! When I’m not studying… I read, watch Netflix, hang out with friends and family, listen to music, play the flute and the piano, and walk my dog!

What are some things you never leave home without?
Cell phone, wallet, chapstick. Very basic essentials :P

What are some of your favorite books?
I don’t have a lot of favourite books, but I do love Harry Potter!

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Once Upon A Time (of course), Friends, Parks and Rec, and Avatar: The Last Airbender are my favourite TV series. I love Disney movies (my favourite is Frozen)!

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
I’m honestly having such a hard time with this one! I feel like it would be so awkward being stuck on a deserted island with famous people I didn’t know personally (not that I know ANY famous people personally LOL).

Hmm, well, I’d love to meet Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue from OUAT! ;) Oh, and the viner Thomas Sanders, who I bet will be just as goofy and kind as he is on the internet.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Venice, Italy.

Do you have any pet peeves?
When people crack their knuckles.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Pizza, salmon, pasta, sushi (these are favourite AND comfort foods!).

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Maybe vanilla? My home isn’t very scented, but vanilla is a very home-y smell.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
My music taste is a mix of singer/songwriter-indie-folk-pop. Plus I love classical music. I can’t stand hardcore rap music.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I can lick my nose!

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate.
Silver or gold? Silver.
Apple or PC? Apple. (I love my MacBook Air!)
White wine or red wine? Red.
Liquor or beer? Not much of a drinker, but I would say liquor. Not a fan of beer.
Coffee or tea?  Tea for sure!
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in, but not too late.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I’ve only ever written for the OUAT fandom, so that would have to be my favourite!

What kind of environment do you write in?
Usually at home in my bedroom, though sometimes in the library at school. (One time I may have been late for class because I got caught up in a chapter…)

Ever write in your PJs?
Yep!

How bout naked?
Nah.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I honestly don’t know! The inspiration for An Inconceivable Secret came to me just SUDDENLY and once that happened, I knew I had to write it. And I do sometimes pull real life experiences in… for example, a scene where Emma and Killian visit a restaurant with a jazz band was based on a time I actually went to a jazz club in Belgium. It helped me to provide imagery, for sure, having “been there”!

Do you write on a schedule?
Hahaha… no. I’m doing this for fun, so I won’t push myself to write when I don’t feel like it.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I’m still on my first multi-chapter fic, so I only have one experience to draw from! That aside, I did outline the general plot of the story before I wrote it, and I usually have a basic idea of what’s coming up as I go, but oftentimes I write whatever comes to me that makes sense with how I want the story to unfold!

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope! Just that I have to be in the right mood.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I love writing fluffy scenes and emotional scenes. I’ve never tried writing smut, but I imagine I’d be terrible at it. :P

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Finding the motivation to keep writing when I’m not feeling totally inspired!

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I don’t title my chapters (saves the extra effort, ha ha), but for titles I try to think of something snappy that captures the story and draws people in.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Emma Swan, definitely. She and I share a lot of insecurities.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Well, I only really have ONE story so my favourite would have to be that one, by default ;D

I went into writing it really excited by the concept and how it could play out. I’ve loved writing the story as it has unfolded, allowing Emma’s character to slowly grow, all the while mixing in the various side-plots to add complexity to the story. It’s been a massive challenge, but very fun.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
I’ve mentioned it to most of my family, and my youngest sister has even read some of the story. They’re pretty supportive!

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I guess that series would be Once Upon A Time, and my favourite episode is the Season 3 finale (Snow Drifts/There’s No Place Like Home).

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Oh man… I’m so grateful for all the compliments I’ve received. I love hearing that people think I’ve captured the characters well. That’s always a challenge when writing fic, so I’m really glad people feel that way!

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Haters gonna hate. ;)

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I love the collective excitement over new episodes and conventions and interviews. It’s awesome feeling like a part of a community who loves the same show and ship as you. My least favourite part is when people are unkind to one another.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Find someone who will help motivate you and encourage you as you go. I found that in my beta, who is now an amazing friend of mine as well!

Have any recommendations?
Fic recommendations? A good friend of mine, colormyheartred on tumblr, writes lovely fic that you should check out!

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
My personal blog on tumblr where I post my fic and other CS/OUAT stuff is perfectgirl-isgone. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So I have a new author to check out thanks to here AND I’m heading over to tumblr to follow her-as should you. Seriously…you won’t regret it. Enjoy my lovelies!!

PS. And here I’m linking her AO3 profile. :)

Author Spotlight: TB Viking Addict

Hey lovelies! So I have a new author for y’all to check out. She’s a relatively new find-like I only found her like 2 weeks ago.  4Padfoot actually posted about her fic To Protect My Kin on Facebook and I pulled it up. I skimmed a bit and was intrigued but I didn’t get a chance to start it until last weekend….and then I devoured it and was completely pissed when I ran out of chapters. :)

So, I’ll shut up cause she’s sweet as can be and y’all need to hear from her.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Beautiful. Oh wait, you mean my name? It’s Shayna, but I’ve been told it means beautiful in Hebrew, so there you go. I’m known as TB Viking Addict online.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m 26 years old and studied journalism at the Walter Cronkite School at ASU. I know, what? Journalism? Yep. I’ve always wanted to be a novelist but magazines also appealed to me, so I chose to go into print journalism. And now I’m shifting back into writing creatively again. Go figure.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Hmmm. When I’m not writing, I’m sketching. I also love photography and I’ve won awards for some of my black and white photographs. If I’m not entertaining myself with those, I like creating DVD slideshows for graduations, weddings, etc.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My purse, phone, wallet, and a camera. I never know when one of my friends or family members are gonna do something hilarious and embarrassing, so I make it a policy to always have my camera just in case. You’d be surprised how often it comes in handy…

What are some of your favorite books?
Anything by Sarah Dessen. The way she writes is amazing! She’s really great at taking serious and tragic issues and making you laugh as you read about them. I’m also a fan of Dean Koontz and the Samaria series by Sharon Shinn. Lately, I’ve also been into Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series and her books on the Hunter’s Guild. Her main character in the latter has absolutely influenced my Vampire Sookie. I definitely recommend her.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Outlander, Penny Dreadful, Marvel’s Agents of Shield, Almost Human, Supernatural, and I’ve just started getting into Dominion.

Some of my favorite movies are Snow White and the Huntsman, 50 First Dates, and World War Z.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Obviously, Alexander Skarsgard. He’s just too yummy not to be my first choice. Jason Statham since I’m convinced that man can do anything (plus I find his voice incredibly sexy) and he’d get us off that island if he had to build a boat and captain it himself. And Ryan Reynolds. I mean, someone’s gotta entertain me while Statham builds the boat.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Nashville. Or Venice. Okay, I’d like to visit Venice and move to Nashville. Win-win.

Do you have any pet peeves?
Finding typos after I’ve posted, crumbs in my butter, and running late. I couldn’t give a crap if anyone else is late, but it drives me crazy when I am.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Macaroni (only the really good stuff, screw Kraft), baked potatoes, and Olive Garden’s Chicken Alfredo. I know… Tons of carbs… But one of them is a veggie, right?

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Warm Vanilla. I used to wear it all the time growing up and now it takes me back home any time I smell it.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I’m probably crazier about Country than I am about True Blood. *Ducks flying stakes and silver darts* From my cowboy boots to my down home roots, I’m country (thank you, Jason Aldean). And I can’t stand heavy metal.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
Horror movies make me laugh instead of scream. Everyone turns and stares at me if I go see one in the movie theater, which just makes me laugh even harder.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate. I used to be all about vanilla. I don’t know what happened.
Silver or gold? White gold. It’s the best of both worlds.
Apple or PC? I freaking hate my iPhone and I’m pretty sure the feeling’s mutual.
White wine or red wine? White. Less chance I’ll stain my shirt.
Liquor or beer? Liquor if we’re getting drunk and beer if we’re playing flip cup. Why? You having a party?
Coffee or tea? Coffee, hands down.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in. I am a night owl. Sometimes I don’t go to sleep until the sun rises. But it’s not like I’m a vampire or anything… *nudges bottles of True Blood beneath bed with foot and smiles crazily*

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
True Blood, though I do read SVM fics too. Every once in a while I’ll read a crossover, but it’s gotta have TB or SVM in it. I write True Blood fics.

What kind of environment do you write in?
I like to be comfy when I write, so I usually write in bed. Sometimes I write outside so I can enjoy the sunshine. It’s a good thing I can day-walk. Crap! Did I just say that out loud? My maker’s gonna be so mad at me!

Ever write in your PJs?
More like when don’t I?

How bout naked?
What? People really do that? *breaks into hysterical fit of giggles*

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Ideas just kind of come to me, so I’m honestly not really sure. Sometimes my mind wanders and I daydream about “what if?” I write the good ones down and go from there. And absolutely. For example, Sookie’s spine breaks in the very first chapter of To Protect My Kin and she cracks a joke about how her Gran used to claim she had a spine of steel. I took that from my mom who likes to joke the same thing about me. The funny thing is that I have a titanium rod fused to my spine, which is actually stronger than steel… So, yes, I most definitely do. A lot of what I write is actually based on something that happened in real life.

Do you write on a schedule?
I try to. I was posting daily for a while (would not have been possible before studying at the Cronkite School) but I wasn’t getting much sleep that way, so now I try my best to get out new chapters within four to five days. Two days for writing and two for reading and editing.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Both. I definitely start out writing whatever comes to me, but once I have an idea of where I’m going with it, I plan out how to get there. I only outline the chapter I’m writing at that moment though, which helps me make sure I include everything I want to. I also keep a couple pages of notes about the overall story, but it’s less of a plot outline and more like scenes I want to write and include somewhere in my story. Then again, right now I’m following the season 3 plot of TB, so one could argue it’s already outlined for me in a way.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
I come up with the scenes at the beginning and the end at the same time.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Actually, I think it’s easier for me to write young adult stories. Realistic fiction. Those are my original works though, not my fanfiction. Lemons are always tough, but I think they’re difficult for most writers. This is also my first attempt at using first person for a multi-chapter story. Every other story I’ve written was always done in third. I love it now, though. It’s so much easier to add humor in first. I was also really nervous about my action sequences, but it turns out the chapter where Sookie takes on Lorena is my most popular so far (according to my stats).

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Deciding when to follow the original plot and when to spin off in a new direction.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
When it comes to story titles, I try to pick something that hints at the biggest theme. For example, the theme of To Protect My Kin is family, so I wanted a title that alluded to that. Then I asked myself why Sookie would ever be okay with being turned. She would do it for her family, to keep being part of their lives and the biggest silver lining to her turning would be that she would have the strength and ability to protect them. Picking chapter titles is a similar process. I think about what stands out most to me about that chapter and come up with something creative or witty alluding to it.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Oddly enough, Jessica. She was turned at 17 and corrupted by the vampire lifestyle. My corruption happened at 18 when I went to college. Hahaha. Just kidding. Kind of. She experienced something traumatic at a relatively young age that blindsided her, and it completely changed and derailed her life. A few years ago, I was told my leg needs to be amputated at some point and though it hasn’t happened yet, it changed everything about my life and nothing’s been the same since. I can definitely empathize with her.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
To Protect My Kin. It’s my first fanfic. I do have an idea for another, a sequel actually, and I’m also brainstorming for a book I hope to start writing soon. I freaking love writing my fanfic though. It actually entertains me as much as watching an episode of True Blood would.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Definitely. I bounce ideas off of them and read them the really entertaining reviews I get after I post each chapter. My little sister (not that little, she’s 23) even voted for me in the New Blood Awards. Sometimes it’s a little frustrating telling them about it because they’re constantly asking me when I’m going to finish the fanfic and start writing a novel. I just growl at them when they do and say, “One story at a time, people!” Lol. My mom’s always dangling ideas in front of my muse. Unfortunately for her, my muse has gotten really good at rolling her eyes, plugging her ears, and doing whatever she wants anyway.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I think it’s a toss-up between episode 3 and 4 of the fourth season, “If you love me, why am I dyin’?” and “I’m alive and on fire.” Eric just cracks me up as his amnesiac self, especially when he shoves Pam and gets drunk on fairy blood. It’s also obvious in those episodes that he doesn’t want Sookie for her telepathy and he has no idea what she tastes like. He doesn’t remember she’s unique at all, but he still wants her. I have no idea what my favorite book is though, I liked TB better than SVM.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I’ve had more than one person tell me they wish I’d written True Blood, which was a truly incredible compliment. And seeing some of the writers I enjoy are following my story, like Kittyinaz and Queen of Area Five. It’s such an amazing compliment to find out the authors of the stories you read are reading yours.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
You can’t please everyone, so I don’t even try. I absolutely love reading my reviews, but I don’t write for my readers. I write to entertain myself and as long as I enjoy reading what I write, I’ll keep writing.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I love all the ideas in our fandom, which is both my favorite and least favorite part. It’s amazing how many ideas are out there and you can literally find a little bit of everything, but it makes coming up with a completely, 100% original idea pretty difficult. With so many fanfics out there, you’re bound to find out someone else has a similar idea. It’s so frustrating to be 100k words into a story and get a review that says, “Hey, did you know so and so is writing a story like this?” But we’re all taking the same original story and using it as our base, so odds are it’s gonna happen no matter what you do.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
You don’t have to write everything in order. If you find yourself struggling in a section or have writer’s block, come back to it later and write a scene you’re excited about instead. My favorite chapters are actually ones I skipped ahead and wrote. By the time I came back to the part I was struggling with, all of my creative juices were flowing and I powered right on through it.

Have any recommendations?
Of course! Pretty much any of the work of the following: Kittyinaz, Queen of Area Five, Gyllene, California Kat, and Makesmyheadspin. I also really liked The Choice and Heaven In This Choice by Wiles, The Arrangement by Texanlady (it’s dark though), and Answer to the Master by Sunsetqueens. Finally,Ethereal Redemption by Midnight Opheliac, which is one of my all-time favorites.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
…I swear, only in fanfic is it a good thing to have rabid stalkers…
I can be stalked at tbvikingaddict.wordpress.com (thanks to the amazing 4padfoot) and
https://m.fanfiction.net/u/6448712/TB-Viking-Addict.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
No, thank you! I’m usually the one doing the interviewing. It’s fun to shake things up. Weird, but fun.

So there it is. She’s a sweetie and an incredibly talented writer. I love her exploration of vamp blood (as I said in the story spotlight) and it’s such a creative take…*le sigh* So yeah, go check her out and leave her love. Thanks lovelies and enjoy!!!

Author Spotlight: Queen of Area Five

Hey lovelies! So, who would like to hear about yet another amazing author?!? Hmmmm…..

This chick is so sweet and so involved and so talented….the list goes on really. I absolutely cannot get enough of her fics-I was seriously mad when she ended A Marriage of Inconvenience because I just wanted mooooooooore. Blah. But I’ve been working my way through her other fics and I can’t say I’m disappointed even the teeniest bit. So yeah, let’s hear from her and I’ll blab some more at the bottom.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Vickie, aka The Queen of Area Five

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I never know what to put… Let’s see I’m the youngest of four children, somewhat of a dreamer, and surprising to some people quite shy.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Think about writing, read, watch TV, sleep. I lead a very exciting life, LOL.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My handbag, everything I need is in there.

What are some of your favorite books?
I would say Southern Vampire Mysteries, but that series went to Hell, and not the fun kind. I love Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, and the occasional autobiography.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
TV shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Friends, Golden Girls, Star Trek. I like the old shows.

Movies: Anything Marvel. I am a total Marvel whore. Lord of the Rings, Batman, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Les Miserables, Harry Potter, Superman…

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Alexander Skarsgard… Do I really need to give a reason for him?

Chris Evan. I think he would be a fun and very hot guy to have a round.

Scarlett Johansson. She seems like such a fun woman to hang out with.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
New York. I don’t know why, it’s just somewhere I have always wanted to go.

Do you have any pet peeves?
Does getting pissed off when the phone rings and I’m trying to write count?

I have a few fan fic pet peeves, the main being when certain people try to impose their desires on your work.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Chocolate… Which I’m not allowed to eat a lot of.

Ice Cream.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
I don’t really have one.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I listen to most types, country, rap, rock, pop, indy.

I don’t hate any, but I’m not really a fan of classical or opera.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I can’t swim.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Vanilla. I don’t actually like chocolate ice-cream.
Silver or gold? Silver. I’m not a fan of gold, at least not yellow gold.
Apple or PC? Apple all the way.
White wine or red wine? Neither.
Liquor or beer? Liquor.
Coffee or tea?  Tea. I don’t like coffee at all.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in. I always used to say I was allergic to mornings.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries. I’ve dabbled in other fandoms, both for writing and reading, but I always come home to TB/SVM.

What kind of environment do you write in?
I’ll write anywhere. I prefer either at my desk or in bed late at night on my iPad. However, I’ve been known to start writing at other people’s houses with a pen and paper.

Ever write in your PJs?
Every single night.

How bout naked?
Probably, but not recently.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Everywhere. I’ll be listening to a song and a line and I will get a new idea, watching a movie, TV show. I have even gotten a new idea for a story while writing another one of my own. And, of course there is my many late night chats with MistressJessica1028, those you inspire an idea or twenty.

Do you write on a schedule?
I’ve tried to in the past, but I’ve found it’s better to just let it come to me now. When I wrote on a schedule I got frustrated and started to dislike my stories.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
A little of both to be honest. Some stories are planned out, and I try to stick to that plan. Other times I will just have a basic idea and start writing and see where it goes.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
No, none what so ever.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Angst is probably the easiest for me to write, which is funny as I don’t actually like it. I’m not too good at writing fluff.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
The beginning. It doesn’t matter how good I think the idea is, or how much I have plotted out, finding the right words to open the story always gives me trouble.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
No. I actually hate coming up with titles. I sometimes look up different song titles and see if they fit. The title is usually one of the last things I come up with.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Sookie. There’s just something about her that draws me in. I think she often gets a rough time from other authors/readers. She’s blamed for a lot of things that weren’t completely her fault, so I have a special place for her in my heart.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
My favourite story to write was probably Behind the Public Masks. I had so much fun writing that as I got to play with a smarter and stronger Sookie. I got to explore, or maybe invent would be a better word, a new part of her personality.

Favourite concept? Definitely Lifting the Veil/Veiled Blood. It’s an idea I’ve never seen anyone else attempt. I love coming up with all the twists and turns for it.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
They know about it, but I don’t talk to them about it.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I still love Dead to the World in SVM.

Episode wise for True Blood that would have to be I Will Rise Up. As much as I hate the way that show went out, I will say when they got it right it was bloody good.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
That I made them cry. When my words move my readers like that I always get a feeling of accomplishment.

I have to say it always puts a smile on my face when I’m told I should have written for the show. I couldn’t have done any worse than the actual writers, right?

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Depends on the criticism. If it’s constructive I will listen to it, I might not agree with it, but I will take it on board.

If it a flame, I will mock the fuck out of the person, and bitch to Ashensunset and MistressJessica1028. I have been lucky in that I have only received a few comments that would be considered claim. It does piss me off, and at times I’ve been hurt by them, but after a while I forget all about them and continue writing like I want.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
My favourite thing is how close many of the writers/readers are. I can honestly say I have made some great friends in the fandom.

My least favourite is how some writers/readers think they have the right to dictate what everyone else should like or hate. I am of the opinion that if you don’t like something, don’t read it. Don’t try and stop anyone else reading it though.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Just write. Write what you like, it doesn’t have to be good at the start as you will improve with practice. I would strongly suggest getting a beta though. A good beta will help you improve your writing and have your back if trouble arises.

Have any recommendations?
Anything by MistressJessica1028 or VictoryinTrouble. Or, and Swimming For the Light by Natsgirl01.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
queenofareafive.wordpress.com

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So yeah there ya have it. She is brilliant at the keyboard and her brain-the things she comes up with are just…ugh. It’s mind porn. Hah hah did I just invent that? Hum. Anyways, go check her out and leave her some love. :) Enjoy lovelies!

Author Spotlight: WinnifredArtemis

Hey darlins! Have a new author for y’all to check out. And she’s a bit of a departure from my normal authors. I actually found her through a beta reading facebook group. And she actually doesn’t write for any of my fandoms. :) But she is incredibly talented and you’d never know she’s not American. The biggest issue when beta’ing is that weird American/European different meaning for words thing. That’s about it.

But she’s really awesome and sweet as can be. So let’s hear from her. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
WinnifredArtemis, but my friends call me Winny.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m 21 years old (born 1993) and live in Europe, Norway – the land of ‘Frozen’. I’ve always been obsessed with ‘what if’s and when I began watching anime and TV-Shows for real, I brought this passion with me – and I guess you can deduct what that led to ;)

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Mostly playing ‘The Sims 3’, but I love to watch TV-Shows and Anime, to voice act / sing, and to take walks while listening to audiobooks.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My phone – who knows when something might happen?
My visa card – who knows? I’ll might really need or want something
My note book and two or three pencils/pens – Ideas for new stories always comes when you’re away from your computer and you phone battery is low.

What are some of your favorite books?
“Artemis Fowl” – Eoin Colfer
“Fruits Basket” – Natsuki Takaya (Manga)
“Harry Potter” – J.K.Rowling
“The Dresden Files” – Jim Butcher
“The Last Apprentice” – Joseph Delaney

Favorite TV shows and movies?
“Anastasia” (20th Century Fox)
“Atlantis” (Disney)
“Game of Thrones”
“Hana Yori Dango” (Japanese Drama)
“Healer” (Korean Drama)
“Naruto” (Anime)
“The Originals”
“The Vampire Diaries”
“True Blood”
“Pretty Little Liars”

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Very difficult question. I’m not one to care much about celebrities or famous people, but if I had to… hmmm.. let’s see…

George R.R. Martin – Because if I got deserted without him, then I wouldn’t get to know the end of ‘A song and Ice and Fire’ (aka ‘Game of Thrones’). Not only that, but I really admire him, and I would love to have him mentor me. Maybe we could work on a project together? *daydreaming*

Ikuta Toma – This is a kinda far-fetch wish, but here we go. He is an actor that I really love watching. I first saw him in ‘Hana Kimi’, and it’s kinda the role he plays as ‘Nakatsu’ that I want to bring along. The reason behind this is that I think he’s really awesome, that, and that this would give me the opportunity to finally get some real lessons in japanese.

Lars Monsen – And here my logical sense kicks in. For those who don’t know, he’s a Norwegian adventurer and journalist, famous for his explorations and backpacking expeditions in harsh wilderness. In particular, he became especially known for his thru-hiking trip in northern Canada and Alaska, an adventure which took him 2 years and 7 months. I would want him there basically to increase the survival chances.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
A specific place? Venezia maybe.

Other than that, I really wanna go to America.

Do you have any pet peeves?
No, I don’t. I guess you can say myself though – I’m kinda like a lazy, grumpy and stubborn cat:P

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I have this strange obsession with tomato soup – but it have to be the cheap, only-add-water kind. One of my favorite things to do when pulling off an all-nighter is to make a 4-servings package and drink it all through the night from a cup :3

Comfort foods, well, either chocolate (obviously), pudding, or garlic baguettes.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Strange as it might sounds, I really feel at home when I meet a room with old, warm air. It’s kinda stuffy, but I really feel comfortable, safe and sleepy in it.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I basically like something of every genre. However, I guess you can say that I like music that I have a connection to. Either that I feel that the lyrics hit me, the musical composition is entrancing, that I have memories connected to the song, or that I really feel that the song fits a character, pairing or idea that I have.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I’m obsessed with organizing and structuring things and I spend a ton of time working with. It’s really fun and satisfying doing it, but if I’m in a situation when there is need for fixing but nothing that I can do about it, well, then I end up sitting there all tense.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? I like both, but I guess that chocolate is the winner.
Silver or gold? Silver. I’ve always prefered silver to gold – both as a metal and as a color. The only exception would be if I was to receive a number or metal bars, then I would probably take the gold because of the value;)
Apple or PC? 1-No question about it.
White wine or red wine? I’m not that big a fan of wine, but I do prefer the red one.
Liquor or beer? Liquor! I really don’t like the taste of beer. The best would be to mix the liquor with some soda and make a drink – I’m such a kid XD
Coffee or tea?   Difficult. Earlier I would have said tea, but then I began as a barista and have grown to know and love so many different kinds of coffee. If all kinds of coffees are allowed, the I’ll pick coffee, but otherwise, I’ll go for the tea.
Sleep in or get up early? Depends on what it means. I don’t like sleeping too long – max 8/9 hours, but my sleep pattern is mostly that I sleep from 3/4 AM – which make my time of awakening around 12 AM… So yeah, decide for yourself what that makes me.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I don’t go that much after fandoms as much as I’m looking for a story about a certain pairing. If something, I guess you could say that I’m more into reading from fandoms that haven’t be portrayed by humans – or mostly anime, cartoons or books.

One exception is ‘Naruto’. This Anime was what introduced me to fanfics, and the universe for this fandom is just so enormous, have a gigantic gallery of characters and have so, so much information and background stories – and not only that’s connected to the main character. It’s really so much out there about this universe, but also so much space and freedom. It was the universe that I first wrote in, and it’s also the fandom that I feel safest in.

What kind of environment do you write in?
It depends on the kind of scene I’m writing, but most of all it’s the time of the day; I’m most creative between 11PM and 3 AM. When it come to a place, I mostly write in my room or home office. As I help, I like to put on some scenery music or soundtrack, light candles (some which are scented), and also drink some tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Also, I’ve discovered that I get really creative when traveling abroad. This often makes me able to write quite a pit when getting into the hotel bed at night.

Ever write in your PJs?
More than in anything else. I’m known for my relationship with my night clothing, and my mom often says that I should just quit buying normal clothing, cause I’m always wearing my PJ anyway.

How bout naked?
No, I haven’t. Honestly, I think I would feel so awkward that I wouldn’t be able to get anything done.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Who doesn’t? I mean, it’s my belief that, whether you like it or not, you use your own feelings, beliefs, thoughts and experience when doing anything creative. Let’s say that you are to write about something that never happened to you, well, you write the character’s feelings – but aren’t these the feeling you imagine that you would have had in similar situation?

Besides this, I think I use somewhere between 15% and 70% of my life – depending on the story.

Do you write on a schedule?
I try, but I mostly fail. As I mentioned before, I do have some creative hours, but it’s not always that these works – and other times I get some surprises while in lecture or at work.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
When I start a story I have some facts in mind. These are basically: the main characters, the theme of story, some milestones, and possible also some situations/conversations. The rest is however quite blurry. One time I actually sat down and wrote a plan for the upcoming chapter; with a lot of details and all, when when I wrote it the week after, my brain just couldn’t stay of the planned path.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
No superstitions really. That is if you don’t take into account the one that if I write a plan, then I’m sure that I’m gonna stray away from it.

I do have some rituals. I have the scented lights, and often my stores are connected to a song or piece of music. What I do then is that I turn off all the lights and put on the song, and then just wander around in the room – or maybe even dance.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
The friendship / romance genre is the one that I’m best at I think – especially if you mix in a little of cluelessness, confusion and anxiety connected to the whole thing. I’m however not good at writing smut, philosophical – and not court cases (A referral to the terrible chapter 11 of my ‘Burning’-story).

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
For me, when talking about one shots or short stories, it’s the process of completing and wrapping up. Most of my stories just wanna keep going and going and going. So yeah, I kinda just have to chop it off at some point and then find a way to make it seem smooth.

Longer stories, well, I guess the uncertainty. LIke, if you got reviews and views on the first chapters, why didn’t the show on the newest one? Was it that bad? Should I really continue writing? Is there actually anyone out there that cares? So yeah, that’s why it often takes time for me to upload new chapters – because I just feel so insecure that I don’t feel like writing – and then comes a review that cheers me right up again.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Haha, no. This is probably what I’m the worst at. I can spend hours just glaring at the top on the document. In the end, it often ends with me asking a friend or beta for a suggestion.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Oh, another difficult one. I guess that when I write I focus on the sides of the character that I feel is mostly like a part of me. Like, Ulquiorra’s judgement and despite, Ino’s train of thoughts, Shikamaru’s laziness, Hinata’s uncertainty, Sora’s constancy, Kyo’s frustration, Akito’s hate and Alice’s lack of boundaries. So yeah, a hard question indeed, but if I had to give an answer, then either Sora (Yosuga no Sora) or Akito (Fruits Basket).

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
“Burning” is important to me. I think it has something to do with the fact that this is basically the first big story I started on. The first chapter was published back in 2010, and it’s still ongoing. It’s also the longest story of mine and also the one that I’ve gotten most feedback on during these years.

When it comes to to concept? Well, I kinda wanna say ‘Burning’ here too, but I think I’ll go for the ‘POV-change’-stories I write. This is basically stories where I write a situation from the perspective of another character than the one that was focused on in the original version. It can either retell, or just add some meat to the bones where it originally is a black space in the story. Also, I really enjoy the concept of ‘Daddy’s Devilish Diary’ – a fun little piece that I do with a fellow writer.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Well, talk to, yeah. With, not so much. I guess it’s mostly me blabbering about it and them nodding without really understanding what I’m going on about.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I’m not gonna be able to answer this XD I have way too many things that I like, and way too many chapters/episodes within these.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
“Aww, this was just perfection. I love when such misunderstanding ends in this way it did here. I wish there would be more chapters but even if there won’t be more I will still love the story. I just can’t resist this pairing! (and your work -)”

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Well, it depends on the intent behind it. If it’s just hate mail without reason, I’ll just ignore it. If it’s criticism that is based on facts, then read through them and consider if you should listen to the notes.

I had a funny thing regarding this a while ago. I have a story of eight chapters, and this person put a review on the first chapter; complaining about the main pairing and saying that it was all wrong. Then, to my surprise, I had gotten another one on the newest chapter – from the same person. The message was still the same; that there was no way the those two would be together, but what I got fascinated by was that the person had actually read through the whole thing – despite knowing from the beginning that it was about a pairing the he/she did not approve of.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Pairings. Yup, the best and the worst is always pairings. I mean, there are so many writers out there that fulfills my need and demand for a not-canon pairing, and this is so fantastic. However, if I myself do a story on something that is not official, there will always be those that criticize your choice of lovers and basically giving you a speech about why it wouldn’t work, and why the characters should be with a certain other character.

Another thing that I have to mention, and that is probably what I hate the most, is when people make parodies. Not when they do a funny and harmless little thing, but when they deliberately writes a story to make fun of and look down on a certain character, universe or pairing. It just makes me upset and offended.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Follow your heart. Yeah, kinda cheesy, but it’s true. If you feel like there is a story missing out there, why not write it yourself. A story is born out of your feelings for the project, so if you pour out your heart, then it will surely find its way to the hearts of the readers. Also, there is no shame in asking others for help – neither when it comes to beta-readings or consulting.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So there you have it lovelies! Even though she doesn’t write in my main fandoms she is a fuckawesome chick who writes seriously amazing stuff. So go check her out. :)

Author Spotlight: Mina Lisly

Hallo lovelies! So I’m hideously late on your spotlight today, which is inexcusable, yet unavoidable. I’m seriously slacking. Ugh.

Anyhoo-this chick is the frickin bomb, alright? She’s written 30-THIRTY-Clace/TMI fics and I totally found her by accident. I read…something else (can’t remember what) and when I went to that author’s page to find more fics, my finger accidentally hit their favorite authors. I was intrigued because Mina was the only one. And so I clicked and the rest is history.

She’s awesome and I’m gonna shut up and let you read. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
I am Mina Lisly, though it is my pen name.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
My life isn’t very interesting, you know. I am French and from a patchwork family, and have a total of six (step)sisters, and one (step)brother. I love them all, and we Lucky have a very deep connection. Otherwise, I am plain me, with miss everybody’s life. Subway, work and sleep (it’s a French saying to explain boring and uneventful life)

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
I think about writing. I dream about writing. I think 99,99% of my time I do something writing-related. It’s obsessive. I think people close to me might kill me about that. Haha.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My music player (because music is life), and my tablet, because I write everywhere. Even while walking sometimes. I used to write on paper, but then I switched to tablet.

What are some of your favourite books?
Mu favourite books of all times are from a series called the Earth Children. I absolutely love this series. It has everything in it. Romance, drama, angst, history, lemon, medicinal knowledge, and it’s just a wonderful series. I’ve read it in French and in English a zillion times, at least. You should really check it out.

Otherwise, I am pretty open. I love as much Agatha Christie’s work, as Tolkien’s, as Rowling’s, as Stephen King’s, as Zola’s. Give me a book, and I’ll read it if I have time.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
I am a big fan of Supernatural. Though I haven’t watched it for over a season (I’m being such a lazy fan, lately). I absolutely fangirl about Once Upon A Time with my sisters. I am the one who got them addicted to this show, haha. I used to watch Veronica Mars, because that chick rocked!  And back in the days (geez,  is wore to myself to never use that expression), I was also into Charmed and the X-Files.

And, of course, I am into Game of Thrones. Haha. Valar Morgulis.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Why only three? It’s such a small choice! I’d definitely have an Irish in the lot, because I am a big sucker for Irish people. I’d probably have Dwayne Johnson the Rock. You know, so he could be my bodyguard against all kind of evils (like crazy monkeys or something). And I’d have another Irish, just in case I get bored. Probably Collin O’Donoghue, or Jonathan Rhys Meyer. (Not Sean Bean, he’ll die within seconds with his legendary ‘luck’, haha)

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
If I could, I’d go all around the world. Though lately, my sister and I are drooling over pictures of Japan. (And when I say lately, I mean it as I since we’re born.)

Do you have any pet peeves?
People doing rude things. Like speaking with a full mouth. Or saying swear words (which is funny, because my characters can be really vulgar, sometimes.)

What are some of your favourite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
My favourite food is ratatouille. It’s just so delicious. And just to kill that urban myth, real ratatouille doesn’t have any meat in it. There I said it, it’s vegan.

As for comfort food, it will be broccoli. If I feel blue and you give me a broccoli flower, I’ll definitely smile.

What’s your favourite scent-one that says “home” to you?
I’d probably say the one you have when you open a new book. I just love that smell.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I am very eclectic. I listen to everything. From Mozart to Disney. From Eminem to Nightwish. From the Rolling Stones to Skrillex. But I have to admit that I have a slight preference to everything that is rock, metal, hard rock and symphonic metal. And I do have a little problem with electro music. I don’t really mind when it’s on the radio, but it’s definitely not in my music player.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I love broccoli.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Vanilla. Because chocolate ain’t really my thing.
Silver or gold? None. I’m allergic to both. I know, my life sucks.
Apple or PC? In between. But I’m converting to Apple more and more. I’m such a sellout. Hahah.
White wine or red wine? Neither. I don’t drink alcohol.
Liquor or beer? Well, same here.
Coffee or tea?  Tea. I don’t like coffee (I’m such a complicated person)
Sleep in or get up early? It depends. Usually, I get up early, but since I started working in this new restaurant, I sleep as much as I can. Because I go to bed at godforsaken hours.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
Well, I’ll be very quick. It’s the Mortal Instruments. I discovered Fanfiction through it, and though I tried, I never managed to write for something else.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Everywhere. I just need to have my music in my ears, and then I’m lost into the world I’m creating.

Ever write in your PJs?
Yup.

How bout naked?
Nah. I’m too prudish. Which is funny when you know what I write. Pffff. I make no sense.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I mostly find inspiration out of nowhere. But my sisters are always supporting me when I have a writer’s block. And sometimes I put little personal experiences in the lives of my characters, or in their actions or attitudes.

Do you write on a schedule?
I write whenever I have time. If I could, I’d write all day long. All night long. In my grave. Haha.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Usually, when I think of a story, the whole story comes to me. The big lines are already drawn, and then, as I write, I fill up the little things. But the ending is already decided, the big twists are already thought of and so, I just have to follow them.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Not really. But when I’m in a frenzy of writing, I don’t read a lot, because I don’t want to be influenced by other’s writing.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I love writing about angst. And action. But when I have to write lemons or really fluffy/cheesy stuffs, I do struggle. But that doesn’t mean I don’t do it.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Not writing too much, so I can have a real life. It’s really obsessive.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Nooooo. If you ever hear of one, let me know. Because this is the biggest struggle I have. Titles. There will be the end of me.

Which character do you identify with the most?
None. Usually, I tend to be very annoyed with my characters at some point. I want to take them by the shoulders and shake them so hard.  But I like strong characters, especially women. I’m a bit tired of weak poor damsels in distress that I read almost everywhere.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Haaaa. That question is too hard. They’re all my babies. From different father’s. Haha. I can’t choose.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Haha. I talk so much about it that I think they’re plotting to get me killed.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
It’s the Mammoth Hunters. Definitely my favourite boon in the Earth Children.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
That I should try and get it published.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Honestly, I really don’t mind. Everything is good to hear. Everything criticism is a way to help me get better, weather they are mean or friendly.

What is your favourite/least favourite part about your preferred fandoms?
I really don’t like the Clace happily ever after. And I don’t like that Valentine died so easily. I really liked him.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
I don’t know. Just do as you feel. Don’t force it, because it will show, and you won’t be satisfied by your work.

Have any recommendations?
Don’t get discouraged. The Force is with you.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Everywhere. Haha. On Snapchat (mina.lisly), Twitter (@MinaLisly), Instagram (mina_lisly).

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So yeah. That’s that and I really think you should go check her out. I’m including her ff.net link here since it’s not above and I definitely want you to find her. :) I’m linking what I can but otherwise you’re on your own. Thanks lovelies and happy reading!

Author Spotlight: Virala

Hallo darlins! I have another lovely lady for you guys! Not a la Les Mis (if you get that reference, I love you. Just fyi.) but she is just one of the sweetest chicks I’ve “met” through this blog. In fact, this morning I got an adorable slightly drunk email just checking in and seeing how I was. See, sweet.

Anyhoo-I absolutely fell in love with her story Finally. It’s so…different. And it’s got Appius AND Godric, which is rare. Usually it’s one or the other, or if there’s both then one is an unseen force. But she’s managed to weave a completely new incarnation of our favorite peeps.

Anyways, I’ll stop yapping and let her “talk”. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie. And you are?
My pen name is Virala

So, tell me a little about yourself.
Let’s see, I’m in my late 20’s and I work in accounting for a construction company in Maryland, about 20 minutes from D.C.. I live with my boyfriend who I’ve been with for almost 12 years and we’re proud owners of a tiny gray and white smushed faced cat. We live on the beach which is nice, but right now I’m hating it.  It’s too damn cold.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
I read.  It’s kinda crazy how much I read, but if you don’t see me getting lost in the book then there’s a really good chance that I’m either cooking or baking. Sometimes both :)

What are some things you never leave home without?
Chapstick and my ipad mini.

What are some of your favorite books?
Okay.  Ready for this?

The Highlander Series
The Fever Series
BDB Series
Archer’s Voice < most books by Mia Sheridan
Acheron
Most of the Dark Hunter Series
Genome, A Million Little Pieces, Hell House, I Am Legend < I refused to watch the movie since I loved the book.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
I don’t watch a lot of tv since I prefer a book to the tube, but I do love me some Sherlock, Top Gear(BBC), Chopped, Modern Family & Firefly.

Some of my favorite movies are: The Lord of the Rings & Hobbit Trilogies, Hot Fuzz, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, The Princess Bride, Snatch, and most Disney/Pixar Movies

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Alexander Skarsgard, Karen Marie Moning and Neil deGrasse Tyson.  I don’t think I need to elaborate why I choose Alex ;)  Karen Moning is my favorite author and I think astrophysicists, Neil Tyson, is fascinating.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Currently, it’s anywhere that has a warm beach.  Hot sand, clear blue water and some sexy man who will gladly serve me a never ending supply of mai tais and pina coladas.

Do you have any pet peeves?
I have a TON, lol.  People who don’t say please or thank you.  People who talk just hear the sound of their own voice. Drivers who refuse to use their turn signals. People who talk with their mouth full or chew with their mouth open.  There’s a lot more but I think this is good :)

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Mmmm.  This is going to make me hungry.  Bulgogi, sushi, lamb curry with mango chutney.  My boyfriend make an amazing beef wellington that is to die for.

Comfort foods?  Homemade mac n cheese, twice baked potatoes and chili cheese fries.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Yankee Candle’s Macintosh Apple since that’s what my house smells like, lol. And the smell of a burning fire pit.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I like all music.  From Great Big Sea, Carbon Leaf and Gaelic Storm, to Evanescence, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Maroon 5, Jay-Z, Rhianna, Digital Daggers, Lindsey Stirling, Kamelot, Big & Rich, Beckah Shae, Eagles, Eminem, Elton John.  See, I like a lot.  There isn’t anything that I can’t stand.  Well, maybe blue grass, lol

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I belly danced for 8 years.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Depends on my mood.  Right now I’d love some vanilla.
Silver or gold? Gold
Apple or PC?  Apple
White wine or red wine?  As long as it’s chilled I’ll drink either.  Though I’ve been on a pinot noir kick lately.
Liquor or beer?  Again, depends on my mood but most of the time I’ll pick liquor.  I love me some rum.
Coffee or tea? Mint tea please!
Sleep in or get up early?  Wait, people actually get up early?  Don’t they know they can sleep in?!

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
True Blood and SVM

What kind of environment do you write in?
As long as I can plug in my headphones and be left alone I can write anywhere. Most of the time I’m at my desk at home.

Ever write in your PJs?
Of course

How bout naked?
Right now. Just kidding! lol.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
My inspiration tends to hit me at the most inconvenient moments.  Like when I’m driving, running or in the shower.  OR when it’s three in the morning and I have to get up in a couple of hours to go to work.  My muse can be a real bitch sometimes, lol.  Music tends to help.  If I’m in the right mood and the right song comes on, the words just seem to flow onto the computer screen.

Do you write on a schedule?
HA!  I try.  I really do but real life has the tendency to laugh at my plans then shove me new ones without warning.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I have to plan my stories or I can’t write them. At the very least I have to know how it’s going to end. If it’s a multiple chapter story, each chapter is broken down with bullet points of things that I want to happen.  I must have drove Gyllene crazy with all the outlines I made for Finally. That woman is a friggin trooper.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I find that it’s easier for me to write angst than anything else. Sex scene are the most nerve wracking, especially since Missy Dee, who is one of the queens of writing sex scenes, is one of my betas.  I’m so very thankful that she’s so sweet and supportive.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Making sure everything flows.  Whether it’s the plot or conversation, I don’t want things to seem forced.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I don’t label my chapters but when I first started writing it was a goal of mine to have the title of the story somewhere in the end of the story.  Strange, I know :)

Which character do you identify with the most?
The most?  I dunno, it’s different with every story.  There’s a little of me in each character so I can identify with all of them. I may not agree with their decisions, but I understand.  Did I just come off as a crazy person right now?

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Had to Know was my favorite to write and I think it was because it was my first all human fic.  That and it was first posted anonymously for a contest so there wasn’t any pressure with expectation

Finally is my favorite story concept wise since it’s just so different from my other stories. It’s a dystopian alternative universe where love is found in an uncommon place.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Hell.  No.  My parents would try to dunk me in a vat of holy water if they knew I was writing stories involving vampires, fairies and sex.  lol

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
All Together Dead is my favorite book of the Southern Vampire Mysteries series.  I just get goose bumps when I think about the scene with the bomb outside the suite at Rhodes:

“Ha,” I said. “Oh, ha-ha. Yeah, ’cause they love me. You see how many vampires are up here? Zero, right?”

“One,” said Eric, stepping out of the stairwell.”

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I’ve received so many wonderful comments but there are two that I will remember till the day I die. The first one was from California Kat when she said she enjoyed my first story Remember Us, and the other was when Missy Dee offered to be my beta for Finally.  I fan girl’d big time with both of them.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Constructive criticism is always welcomed since I’m always looking for way to improve my stories and writing technique. If I don’t know and people don’t tell me, how can I improve?

The criticism that’s just plain hateful, thoughtless bashing?  Once in a while I do get a kick out of them. I laugh and laugh before I delete the comment because 10 out of 10 times it’s from an anonymous reviewer. I’ve gotten a lot for Finally from people who assume things just from reading the first chapter. It’s amazing how quick people are to judge without really knowing anything.

However, sometimes there are reviews that just hurt.  I just have to remember that I’ll never be able to make everyone happy, but as long as I am and proud of my work then that’s the only thing that matters.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
My favorite part of the TB/SVM fandom are the so many wonderful people that I’ve met from all over the world.  It’s incredible to know that these books/tv show connects us all together.

My least favorite?  Aside from the trolls?  I think it’s waiting for stories to update. lol.  I know, I know.  I’m one of those people that take forever and a day to update.  I seriously need to work on that.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Write what you would like to read and don’t give up!

Have any recommendations?
Fanfiction wise?  Anything and everything from Gyllene, Missy Dee, California Kat, All About Eric, Kjwrit, wannabewriter25 and Texanlady.

Books – I highly recommend Karen Moning’s Fever Series.  They are more fantasy than romance but I love the hell out of those books.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
Stalkers? lol.  Riiight
viralafanfiction.wordpress.com

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So yeah. That’s it. Her imagination is amazingly unique and I highly recommend you click on over to her blog. She’s got some awesomeness all up in there and you need to read and leave her love. Thanks lovelies and happy reading!!!

Author Spotlight: Livybug

Hey lovelies! So I have a new author for you to check out. Yippee!!!

Anyways, this chick has written a few (read:4) Mortal Instruments fics. I actually found her by accident. I had a TMI fic pulled up on my phone and my finger managed to press…something-which somehow navigated me to her. Seriously, I struggled for a few minutes randomly pressing things even though my fingers were nowhere near any links. Apparently my phone knows what I like.

So yeah, I’m gonna leave you to see what she’s got to say cause she’s pretty frickin’ sweet!

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
So, tell me a little about yourself.
I am a mother of 3. I have a slight (huge) addiction to the written word whether it be reading or writing, it doesn’t seem to matter to me. However, my passion before that was music. I love to sing as well.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing, first and foremost I am Mom. I also work part time for the State I live in with individuals that have mental disabilities. After those two priorities comes reading and writing…and sleeping. I love to sleep!

What are some things you never leave home without?
Keys, phone, Kindle.

What are some of your favorite books?
That is a dangerous question. I have a few…

The Lux series, Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Arcana Chronicles, Kresley Cole.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, Laini Taylor
Shadow Hunter Chronicles, Cassandra Clare

There are so many more but these are the top…in no specific order.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Vikings on the History Channel is my addiction right now, but I also watch, The Originals, Grey’s Anatomoy, and Empire. Movies are tough, too. Like books there are so many good ones, but Dirty Dancing is my all-time favorite.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Laini Taylor, because they way she spins words amazes me.

MacGyver, because he would know what to do with a hair tie, bobby pin and a leaf.

Chuck Norris, because…really he can do everything.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I have two; Venice and New Orleans.

Do you have any pet peeves?
Yup, when people cut their toe nails anywhere BUT the bathroom. That’s just gross.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
All time favorite is my Grandpa’s meatballs, yum. But I also love tacos. Comfort food is my Mom’s tator-tot hotdish.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Vanilla and lilac.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I can really enjoy all kinds of music. I don’t discriminate when it comes to music, although I’m not a HUGE fan of classical or heavy metal-I’m going to scream in the mic- music.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I used to sing in a band.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Chocolate, because plain vanilla is boring.
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? PC, Apple is overrated.
White wine or red wine? Red, I like sweet wine.
Liquor or beer? Liquor, Beer is nasty! Ew!
Coffee or tea?  Coffee…with LOTS and LOTS of creamer…French vanilla from Wal-mart.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I’ve only written Fanfics using characters from the Mortal Instruments, but I could see myself using the Lux series as well. Characters have to talk, if they don’t, there’s no story to tell.

What kind of environment do you write in?
In my living room with screaming kids, crazy cats and my Chihuahua.

Ever write in your PJs?
99% of the time

How bout naked?
Nope, I live in the state of Snow and mosquitos, clothes are good.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Inspiration is all over the place, if you’re paying attention. It could be something as small as a smile from my kids or a grand gesture from my husband or just staring out my window. And yes, I do pull real life experiences into my stories. It ties me to them, makes them part of me and if I’m invested, my readers will be, too.

Do you write on a schedule?
HA HA!…NO

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
I am horrible at plotting. I just can’t do it. I have a general idea, but I always know the ending so as long as everything leads to that, I’m good with it.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Writing on Sundays makes the hair on my legs grow faster…no JK, I don’t. LOL

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I tend to be good at fluff and HEA’s. I’d have a hard time with Sci-Fi I think. Love to read them and watch shows in that genre, but I just don’t think I could come up with some of that crazy stuff.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Staying true to the character that the author has created while making them your own.  In Fanfics your using another person’s creation. The reader has to be able to see that character in what they are reading as well as sense the difference. It’s tough.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
Not really, whatever conveys the story the best. Don’t cry was called that because Jace told Clary, “Don’t cry,” repeatedly throughout the story. Last Words was named that because the whole story was based on the last words of a dying woman. My other two stories were named after songs.

Which character do you identify with the most?
From my fics, probably Izzy. She is all tough on the outside, but mushy on the inside. That’s me.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Don’t Cry was my favorite concept wise. Using memories to tell the backstory for my characters was fun. My favorite to write was probably Wide Awake. I got to delve into 9/11 and really put myself into a situation that was not only emotional for the US, but also for the world. It was a challenge, as was Don’t Cry being that Jace was a tortured soldier thought to have died, but 9/11 really touched the whole world in a way and I wanted to write about it. For those who weren’t here to live it and for those that were to remember it.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
LOL! Nope.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
The Lux series, was OPAL. The Mortal Instruments was the Clockwork books. There are so many, it’s hard to remember them all off the top of my head.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
It was for Wide Awake when multiple readers told me that I’d captured the feelings they felt when 9/11 happened perfectly. It was a good feeling to know I’d accomplished what I set out to do when I wrote the story.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Grain of salt. Harsh words do hurt, but not everyone will like my stories and they don’t have to. Don’t like them? Don’t read them!

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Remembering names to lesser characters when I need to fill a spot! LOL! There are SO many characters in the Mortal Instruments series, It’s hard to keep track of them all.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
If you want to do it, sit down and do it. Don’t just think about it. Books don’t write themselves and they take time and devotion. They are like a child that you have to nurture and love and then send it out in the world and see if others will love it, too. It’s not easy. It’s very frustrating and when that first bad review comes in, it will rip your heart out. But for every one of those, there are 10 good ones that make you smile and make you want to write more.

Have any recommendations?
If you’re into reading fics…DDPJCLAF if an AMAZING writer. She is also on Fanfiction.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So yeah. You should really go check her out cause she’s pretty damn awesome! Leave her some love and let her know how much you adore her too cause,  ya know, we all love to hear that. Alright, thanks lovelies!!!

Author Spotlight: Sophie733

So, I was scrolling through random TMI searches one day on ff.net and I stumbled across this gem of an author. I read her fic Be My Escape and fell in love with how she wrote the characters. Seriously, she is pretty damn awesome. So, of course, I had to spotlight her for you lovelies.

She’s also got a Harry Potter fic published, which I haven’t read but I may be tempted by the summary. So yeah, let’s hear from her. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Sophie733

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I have love writing since I was a kid and always wanted to be an author, that’s the one dream that never changed.  I’m married to Vladric733 and if it’s a fandom he reads, he’ll sometimes beta for me.  He’s the one who got me reading fan fics so I took his ‘last name’ when making my ID.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Thinking about writing mostly.  I have a full time job as well as two dogs and two bunnies.  I mainly spend time with them when I’m not writing or at work.  I also do a lot of reading.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My cell phone, that’s about it.  If I’m driving I have my purse with my wallet and a notebook.  But for the most part I can read and make notes on my phone so it’s easiest.

What are some of your favorite books?
Harry Potter, Mortal Instruments, Chronicles of Narnia and a lot more

Anna of Byzantium will always have a place in my heart because it was the book that got me hooked on reading again.  I was a slow reader and as such it took a lot of dedication to a book to keep with it.  That historical fiction hooked me and I just kept reading after that.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
Doctor Who (though I only just got into it and am still in the early seasons on Netflix), NCIS, The Blacklist, Arrow, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (though I haven’t finished that yet either)

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Famous people?  Hmm, I don’t really know that many real names.  Can I trade two of them to have my husband?  He’s really handy and could make sure we all survive, plus he could cook anything.  Then maybe Patrick Stewart?  (Sorry, is that too mushy?  He really is the best in a tight situation.)

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Italy

Do you have any pet peeves?
Sure…Being mean to people, not being able to own up to your mistakes, driving like an idiot

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
Sushi, most italian food, steak and anything that’s made from potatoes.  Comfort foods, well if I’m not feeling well I revert back to peanut butter and jelly on toasted bread.  My mom would always make that when I was a kid.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
I have no idea…I don’t really pay attention

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I like pretty much everything, pop to country to rap to classical.  There isn’t really any kind of music I can’t stand, though there are certain songs I don’t care for.  I’m not the biggest person into screaming music, maybe because I like to know the words and I like melodies.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
While I’ve always loved visiting the beach, I am scared of the ocean and won’t go out deeper than waist high.  I like to think I just have a healthy reverence for it’s massive power.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Vanilla (goes with anything)
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? PC
White wine or red wine? I don’t care for wine
Liquor or beer? Liquor, but I don’t drink anymore
Coffee or tea?  Coffee I guess, but I don’t drink that either, but I love the smell
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in, but I usually end up getting early regardless of preference

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
Harry Potter is a big one and I’ve gotten into Mortal Instruments in the last year.  I write in the fandoms I read.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Sometimes music, but usually just quiet…me and my laptop anywhere

Ever write in your PJs?
yep

How bout naked?
Isn’t that the same as PJ’s? JK yea

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Inspiration comes from everywhere.  Sometimes I’m reading a story and a thought comes in about the same fandom but a completely unrelated plot.  Or I’m staring off while I’m listening to music and my mind wanders into the field of ‘what if’s.’  I put in some life experiences sometimes, nothing is really sticking out in my mind right now, but it’s really about them, the characters.  I feel like they write the story, not me.

Do you write on a schedule?
Not really.  I try to write something everyday, but that doesn’t always happen.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
So I get a general idea, sometimes nothing more than a scenario or a scene.  I write a chapter or two to really get into the characters and then I sit down and write plot points I want to hit.  It helps me to know where I’m going, but even then, I let changes come as I write.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
None.  I’m the girl who opens umbrellas inside just say I don’t care about bad luck and I have broken at least two mirrors–though not on purpose.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Fiction, I only really write fiction.  I dabble with writing non fiction about my own life, but I never share those.  They are more therapeutic than actually for others.  I like writing fantasy fiction, but any fiction works for me.  Non Fiction is just not as much fun for me.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Worrying that it will never reach readers or disappointing readers.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I try to think of a phrase that sums of the content.  Sometimes it’s something I hear or from a song (Ex: Be My Escape is the name of a Relient K song).  I also try for a bit of humor in them or a way in which the title of a chapter has a different meaning once the chapter is completed.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Usually the protagonist.  I write from a woman’s perspective because I find it hard knowing how a man thinks and I think it wouldn’t turn out right.  However, usually there is a piece of each of the main characters that I identify with in one way or another.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
I don’t know.  I am only writing my second fan fic.  In some ways I’m having more fun with this one, but that’s because it’s the idea that I’m thinking about all the time, while the other has already ended.  I tend not to stick with a concept that I don’t thoroughly enjoy.  And what I enjoy writing can change based on my mood.  Though I kind of have a rule not to take short cuts in my writing and that the characters don’t make stupid decisions just to move the plot along.

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Yes I do.  I talk to my husband thoroughly and bounce ideas off of him.  Once, on a road trip to visit family, we spend hours going back and forth about a story and in the end it was way better.  I also talk to my parents and siblings about it because I just get so excited I can’t not talk about it.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (though I am still reading this series)

Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Someone was really excited that I actually had proper grammar.  Their excitement was so evident, I had to smile when I read it.  They went on to say that it just made the story that much more awesome.  Really, when you can tell that the person genuinely loves the story, it’s the best thing in the world.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
If it’s constructive, then thank you.  That is just people trying to help and I do my best to improve.  If it’s mean, I try to ignore it.  I just itch to say something back, but I know that won’t help so I do my best to resist.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Favorite: there are so many awesome stories out there, I just want to read all the time.  Least favorite: when stories never get finished (though I understand) and when people take short cuts in writing an otherwise amazing story

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Do not give up, ever.  There was a time I walked away from writing because I felt I would never become a good writer.  It was like tearing a piece of my soul off and putting it in a box.  I couldn’t stay away, even if I was doomed to always be bad.  For me, success wasn’t the number of people who liked it or if I ever got published.  Success was finishing a story and loving writing it.  The other thing is read!  Be an avid reader of classic, of fan fic, of everything.  Great writers are always first great readers.

Have any recommendations?
Harry Potter: Harry Crow by robst; Static by galfoy; Blood Red by Fluticorns

Mortal Instruments: Crossed Swords by Daedalic; Snowed In by SephCurrentDaughterofPoseidon

Twilight: The Consequences by M. Michelon (as well as the rest of the Twilight they write)

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

Yeah. She’s awesome. Y’all should go check her out and read her stuff and leave her reviews and all that lovely stuff. :)

Author Spotlight: SueBee0619

Hey y’all! So I have a pretty awesome author for you to check out. Now, this girl is a slight anomaly for me. She mostly writes for Twilight. *gasp*

Buuuuuutttttt….she wrote a pretty fuckawesome one shot for OUAT which is how I found her through a Captain Swan facebook page. She’s pretty frickin’ cool and you should definitely check her out. I skimmed a few of her Twilight fics and even though I absolutely could not get into the story, her writing is just as awesome as her OUAT fic. *shrug* so, if you’re into that, DEFINITELY check her out.

And now, we hear from her. :)

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Hiya! I’m Sue. SueBee is a nickname I’ve had since high school, so SueBee0619 was an easy screenname since my birthday is June 19. And Jo, who I beta for, started calling me The Betafairy, so there’s that too.

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m 41 and don’t feel it (or act it). I work in New York City in entertainment and live in Jersey with my dog, Izzy.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
I worked in theatre up until about a year ago (no, not as an actor), so I go see shows when I can. I play with my dog and read a lot. And occasionally am involved in a poker game with friends that started as a weekly thing about ten years ago. It’s spaced out way more now that we’re not all at the same theatre.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My iPhone, my Metrocard, and my headphones so I can drown out people during my commute.

What are some of your favorite books?
Ah… so many. A Prayer for Owen Meaney will always be way up there. I’ve recently gotten into The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, which I love, and liked The Hollows series by Kim Harrison a lot too. For YA, I really loved the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout. The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman was pretty special too, but I just adore him as a person. If you haven’t seen it, look up his graduation speech for the University of the Arts from a few years ago. It’s wonderful for anyone with a creative bone in his or her body.

Favorite TV shows and movies?
I’m really not a huge TV person, but obviously I watch (and obsess over) OUAT. I loved Transparent (on Amazon). I binge watched FNL last year and adore the relationship between Coach and Tami Taylor. I want to see several of the Best Picture nominees from this year and just haven’t gotten to for a variety of reasons. I absolutely love 80’s John Hughes style movies and will laugh every time at Christopher Guest’s films.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Hmmmm… David Cronenberg or Neil Gaiman simply to have someone fascinating to talk to. Sam Heughan or Colin O’Donaghue because have you seen those two????? Sam might win that slot though because his muscles would come in handy. And then someone who is useful in the wild and is willing to kill bugs for me.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
I’d love to go on safari in Africa.

Do you have any pet peeves?
I’m super noise sensitive, so gum cracking/popping is top of the list. In general, basic rudeness and not being considerate of other people.

What are some of your favorite foods? How ‘bout comfort foods?
I love food so it’s hard to narrow it down. My family (including me) fights over my cousin’s blue grape pie at Thanksgiving. A really good, traditional cassoulet or coq au vin is a beautiful thing as is anything involving bacon. For comfort food, when I’m sick it’s avgolomeno (Greek lemon chicken soup), otherwise it’s mac and cheese or French fries. And bacon.

What’s your favorite scent-one that says “home” to you?
Backstage in a theatre. A friend once said my face lights up when I enter an empty stage and it’s true. I just love it and feel completely at ease there.

What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely can’t stand?
I’m really into Hozier right now. I’m not really into pop and I can’t handle most metal (the noise thing). I’d say I don’t like country, but I love Dolly Parton, so I can’t make that blanket statement.

Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I have absolutely no poker face, so it’s good that some people I interact with are online only. LOL

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla?  Vanilla
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? Apple
White wine or red wine? Depends on the season
Liquor or beer? Depends on my mood. I like a good whiskey on the rocks though.
Coffee or tea?  Coffee in the morning but I love tea as well
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in. I’ve been a night owl since I was a baby.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
I read Twilight, OUAT, and Veronica Mars. I write Twi and OUAT.

What kind of environment do you write in?
Sitting on my bed with Izzy curled up next to me (or on me). Occasionally at work if I can sneak it in.

Ever write in your PJs?
Absolutely. Actually, I’d say most of the time.

How bout naked?
I don’t think so? I think there was probably at least underwear on. LOL

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Inspiration can come from a prompt, an article I’ve read, music, a photo, a late night conversation… pretty much anything. I’ll feel the spark of an idea and then I end up teasing it out to see if there’s something to work with. I absolutely pull my real life experiences into some of the things I write, whether it’s theatre, my neighborhood, random embarrassing moments I’ve had, or even just emotions I need to get out.

Do you write on a schedule?
I’m pretty new to this writing thing, so no. I write when I’m inspired. I get an idea and then I mull and mull and mull until I have a pretty solid thought of where I want to go. And then I write in one big burst.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Both? I plot it out in my head, but then sometimes I get inspiration while I’m writing and it goes in a completely different (and better) direction.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
No. I’m plenty superstitious in other parts of my life though.

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
Fluff and humor are usually easiest for me. I’ve gotten better at digging deep to write some hurt or angst, but it can be painful and I don’t think I’m necessarily good at it. I can’t imagine writing sci-fi or fantasy simply because of the whole world you have to create around the story.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Actually doing it. I never thought I could do any kind of creative writing until I entered a fic contest a couple of years ago and I’m proud that I did. Because I’m new-ish, I have to feel it to write it, so I’ll have ideas in my head that never get to paper simply because I’m not feeling the writing bug. I probably should get more disciplined about just sitting down and writing no matter what.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
A lot of the time the title will just be there – I’ll know it immediately. There have been times though when I’ve completely struggled with what to call something and that’s when my friends get panicked PMs.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Emma Swan. But Hook is a blast to write.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
My favorite to write was probably Captain Guyliner simply because it made me laugh while I was picturing it in my head. My favorite concept wise was probably The Heart of the Matter or On a Cold Winter’s Night. I’m pretty proud of most of my stuff (and not in an egotistical way) simply because each one represents me growing as a writer or was a new way to challenge myself no matter if the actual piece is good or not. I wrote for an angst contest because I thought I couldn’t write angst. I wrote for another contest simply to see if I could force myself to write when I wasn’t feeling the writing bug. And so on and so on…

Do you talk to your family about your writing?
My sister and brother in law know that I write (I think) but the only family member who has read anything is my cousin. She’s into OUAT, so I sent her The Heart of the Matter to read because it has no smut.

What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
For Twilight I barely remember the books because I’ve read so much fic. A lot of fic from that fandom is so much better than the source material too. For OUAT, I really adore the Captain Swan movie (last two episodes of season 3), but the second half of season 4 seems to be shaping up nicely!

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
For my Twific “What I Did for Love,” being told that I got the feel right by people who saw A Chorus Line and were involved in the AIDS crisis that wreaked havoc on Broadway. That meant the world to me. For “The Heart of the Matter” that Eddie and Adam should hire me. I’m honestly embarrassed to admit that one.

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
I’ve been lucky. People have been very kind to me. I crave criticism from my pre-readers though. Rip that puppy apart so I can make it the best I can. It’s the only way to really learn.

What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
Drama. Infighting. People being assholes. This whole treating the actors like shit that has been happening lately has really bothered me as well.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Just go for it. And get yourself people to preread or beta who will give you honest feedback. Not just an “OMG, this is so good” (although you need a cheerleader too), but people who will give you constructive criticism. It’s the only way you learn and grow.

Have any recommendations?
Oh jeez. So many. WTVOC is always good. Spanglemaker9 has written for a bunch of different fandoms and she’s great. FictionFreak95 and Belladonnacullen among so many others in the Twi-fic world. There are so many more. I try to be good about keeping my favorites up to date, so please feel free to dig through my lists on FFN and AO3! And, if you’re looking for something in particular, I’m more than happy to point people in the right direction, so PM me.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
On FFN, AO3, Fictionpad, Tumblr, and twitter I’m SueBee0619.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So there you have it. She’s awesome. I love both her one shots (I forgot about one…which is a horrible oversight because DUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!) and she’s definitely worth indulging in. :) So go leave her some love!
