Hey darlins! I have an awesome chick for y’all to check out. Ā I found her on the-what else-Captain Swan Forever Facebook page (seriously that’s where I find all my OUAT stuff lately!) and I was totally intrigued by the summary they posted.
Well, I was not at ALL disappointed. And-on top of the awesome fic she’s working on-she’s a sweetie. :) So read on and let her talk cause I’m kinda boring.
Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
My nameās Sarah, and my pen name on AO3 is itssarahndipity āŗ
So, tell me a little about yourself.
Iām a Canadian university student who adores chocolate, tea, classical music, and my dog Calvin.
What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
Usually studying, two thirds of the year! When Iām not studying⦠I read, watch Netflix, hang out with friends and family, listen to music, play the flute and the piano, and walk my dog!
What are some things you never leave home without?
Cell phone, wallet, chapstick. Very basic essentials :P
What are some of your favorite books?
I donāt have a lot of favourite books, but I do love Harry Potter!
Favorite TV shows and movies?
Once Upon A Time (of course), Friends, Parks and Rec, and Avatar: The Last Airbender are my favourite TV series. I love Disney movies (my favourite is Frozen)!
If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Iām honestly having such a hard time with this one! I feel like it would be so awkward being stuck on a deserted island with famous people I didnāt know personally (not that I know ANY famous people personally LOL).
Hmm, well, Iād love to meet Jennifer Morrison and Colin OāDonoghue from OUAT! ;) Oh, and the viner Thomas Sanders, who I bet will be just as goofy and kind as he is on the internet.
What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
Venice, Italy.
Do you have any pet peeves?
When people crack their knuckles.
What are some of your favorite foods? How ābout comfort foods?
Pizza, salmon, pasta, sushi (these are favourite AND comfort foods!).
Whatās your favorite scent-one that says āhomeā to you?
Maybe vanilla? My home isnāt very scented, but vanilla is a very home-y smell.
What kind of music do you like? Any you absolutely canāt stand?
My music taste is a mix of singer/songwriter-indie-folk-pop. Plus I love classical music. I canāt stand hardcore rap music.
Tell me one random thing about yourself.
I can lick my nose!
Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Ā Chocolate.
Silver or gold? Silver.
Apple or PC? Apple. (I love my MacBook Air!)
White wine or red wine? Red.
Liquor or beer? Not much of a drinker, but I would say liquor. Not a fan of beer.
Coffee or tea? Ā Tea for sure!
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in, but not too late.
Okay, now for the good stuff.
What are your preferred fandoms for writing/reading?
Iāve only ever written for the OUAT fandom, so that would have to be my favourite!
What kind of environment do you write in?
Usually at home in my bedroom, though sometimes in the library at school. (One time I may have been late for class because I got caught up in a chapterā¦)
Ever write in your PJs?
Yep!
How bout naked?
Nah.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
I honestly donāt know! The inspiration for An Inconceivable Secret came to me just SUDDENLY and once that happened, I knew I had to write it. And I do sometimes pull real life experiences in⦠for example, a scene where Emma and Killian visit a restaurant with a jazz band was based on a time I actually went to a jazz club in Belgium. It helped me to provide imagery, for sure, having ābeen thereā!
Do you write on a schedule?
Hahaha⦠no. Iām doing this for fun, so I wonāt push myself to write when I donāt feel like it.
Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
Iām still on my first multi-chapter fic, so I only have one experience to draw from! That aside, I did outline the general plot of the story before I wrote it, and I usually have a basic idea of whatās coming up as I go, but oftentimes I write whatever comes to me that makes sense with how I want the story to unfold!
Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?
Nope! Just that I have to be in the right mood.
Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I love writing fluffy scenes and emotional scenes. Iāve never tried writing smut, but I imagine Iād be terrible at it. :P
What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
Finding the motivation to keep writing when Iām not feeling totally inspired!
Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
I donāt title my chapters (saves the extra effort, ha ha), but for titles I try to think of something snappy that captures the story and draws people in.
Which character do you identify with the most?
Emma Swan, definitely. She and I share a lot of insecurities.
Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
Well, I only really have ONE story so my favourite would have to be that one, by default ;D
I went into writing it really excited by the concept and how it could play out. Iāve loved writing the story as it has unfolded, allowing Emmaās character to slowly grow, all the while mixing in the various side-plots to add complexity to the story. Itās been a massive challenge, but very fun.
Do you talk to your family about your writing?
Iāve mentioned it to most of my family, and my youngest sister has even read some of the story. Theyāre pretty supportive!
What is your favorite book/episode in your preferred series?
I guess that series would be Once Upon A Time, and my favourite episode is the Season 3 finale (Snow Drifts/Thereās No Place Like Home).
What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
Oh man⦠Iām so grateful for all the compliments Iāve received. I love hearing that people think Iāve captured the characters well. Thatās always a challenge when writing fic, so Iām really glad people feel that way!
How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
Haters gonna hate. ;)
What is your favorite/least favorite part about your preferred fandoms?
I love the collective excitement over new episodes and conventions and interviews. Itās awesome feeling like a part of a community who loves the same show and ship as you. My least favourite part is when people are unkind to one another.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Find someone who will help motivate you and encourage you as you go. I found that in my beta, who is now an amazing friend of mine as well!
Have any recommendations?
Fic recommendations? A good friend of mine, colormyheartred on tumblr, writes lovely fic that you should check out!
And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
My personal blog on tumblr where I post my fic and other CS/OUAT stuff is perfectgirl-isgone. :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!
So I have a new author to check out thanks to here AND I’m heading over to tumblr to follow her-as should you. Seriously…you won’t regret it. Enjoy my lovelies!!
