Yeah, that’s me. Total fail.

I promise I’ll try to do better. And besides, my phone is running out of space from all the hotness I’ve hoarded.

I’m not even gonna try to excuse it. I’ll just have to get a bigger phone. Or start up the hotness posts. :D

So that’ll be on my agenda to do. It may be patchy, but I’ll work on it. But, for now, I’ve got a new two shot for you. It’s a Fremione pairing (or Fred Weasley/Hermione Granger, for those of you who don’t know) because, let’s face it. Jo could’ve taken ANY OTHER WEASLEY and it would’ve been better than Fred. Well, except George of course, but you get my point.

I have the first chapter up and as soon as I finish the second (and end) it’ll go up. I’m still chugging away at Dark Arts, but this was a nice little break from the…darkness. So yeah.

And without further ado, I give you…

Obvious Denial!

As always, banner takes you to the story home page and the link will take you directly to the chapter.

Obvious Denial // Chapter 1

Tuesday Toss Up

Hallo lovelies! So, hopefully this toss up will have a bit more variety in the comments. *sheesh* Both of the previous toss ups were unanimous. First Lincoln, then pirates…though it’s not like I’m complaining cause those were actually my choices.

So here you are-I’ve used both of these fandoms/source material in some of my fics in different ways, though I’ve never actually been a part of either fanfiction community. So, here it is, and I’ll tell you my thoughts below.

My Choice
Okay, so-there are a multitude of positives for both in my books.

First we’ll start with LOTR. I actually just got done watching all three Hobbit movies and then all three extended versions of LOTR. I love the fantasy, the intrigue, the danger-everything. I love having a new world that’s unknown to explore. We tend to go through cycles where we’ll marathon them all and then not watch them for a few months, so it’s all fun again. That said, I’ve never read most of the books. I read the Hobbit, but this post isn’t about that. I *tried* to read LOTR-I did. I actually tried multiple times. But I couldn’t really get into it. Something about it translates more to the screen than the page for me, which is a rarity. I honestly don’t think I can think of another book to movie situation where that’s the case. *shrug*

And then we have Harry. Harry freaking Potter. The first Harry Potter book was published when I was 11. I read and progressed through his world as he himself did. Here’s a funny story that has spoilers for book 6-so please skip everything in the *** if you want.

********* I preordered book 6 and it arrived the day before it was set to. So of course, I devoured it overnight, didn’t sleep, just sat in my bed and read. So my dad got up for work and I decided I wasn’t going to school. I was a junior I believe, so he just kinda let me. He knew this was a huge deal. About 10 that morning I got to the part where Dumbledore dies and I absolutely lost it. I called my dad in hysterics, babbling about what had happened. Well, he couldn’t understand what I was saying except that someone died. So he hung up and rushed home…only to find me sobbing over my book. He laughed so hard when I finally calmed down enough to explain it to him. And he still hasn’t let me live it down to this day-like 11 years later.************

So yeah. I have 2 sets of books too. I have pristine first edition hard cover books that I never touch except to dust. And then I have my reading set-which has mostly been replaced at least once since I broke the spines on them. I loved the movies and frequently marathon those since they’re something my kids enjoy as well. In fact, when my oldest son was born he spent 3 weeks in the NICU and I’d sit there for hours with him in my arms reading the first Harry Potter book to him.

If you can’t tell, it’s really no contest to me. While I love Middle Earth and all the drama of it’s characters, my vote hands down goes to HP. I grew up with him and Ron and Hermione. I grew up hoping to get my Hogwarts letter, to have an owl (I kid you not, I asked for one for my 12th birthday), just for…magic. I still read those books and they’ve become my…god I don’t even know. They’re almost a life line. When I was having trouble in high school-which if you’ve read my blog before you’ll know what I mean-HP was there. Those books-and the movies-are what I pick up when I need a pick me up. They’re what I go to for comfort. They’re what I’m showing my children as an example of friendship and loyalty and how not everything is what it seems. So yeah, HP gets my vote in this week’s Toss Up.

Leave me some love and let me know what you think. *Funny stories are always a bonus, cause boy do I have tons for you.*

Oh yeah, and if you had any doubts after all this blabber…I even have an HP lightning bolt tattoo. So yeah. :)

Author Spotlight: VampQueenV

I stumbled onto this gal a while back for the story A Marriage of Inconvenience. I fell in love and then voraciously read every SVM/True Blood story she’d written. She also has stories from the X:Men and Harry Potter genres, which I’ve skimmed and are equally as good, if not quite my taste fandom wise. Let’s hear what she’s got to say, instead of my incessant ramblings.

Let’s start with an introduction. I’m Kelly, or as more people know me, Kelpie.
And you are?
Penname: VampQueenV
Real name: Vickie

So, tell me a little about yourself.
I’m 32, live in the UK, and single.

What do you do with yourself when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing I’m either reading, watching TV, or doing the housework. Not an exciting life.

What are some things you never leave home without?
My handbag, it contains everything I need.

What are some of your favorite (non-SVM) books?
Harry Potter. The Elemental Mysteries.

Favorite (non-True Blood) TV shows and movies?
Movies: The Avengers. Iron Man 1&2. Thor. Captain America. Harry Potter series. Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Batman Trilogy. Sherlock Holmes 1&2.

TV series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (even though the series has finished.) Friends. Teen Wolf. Dexter.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had 3 famous people with you, who would you choose and why?
Robert Downey Jr. There’s just something about the man that appeals to me, and I don’t just mean physically. He’s led an interesting life and I’m sure he would be good company.

Alexander Skarsgard. This one is kind of obvious. The man is gorgeous. Plus I’m sure he’d be able to build something for us to stay in.

JK Rowling. She would be able to tell us all amazing stories and we’d never be bored.

What is 1 place you’d love to visit?
New York.

Do you have any pet peeves?
Not really. Unless people standing in the middle of the aisle talking in supermarkets count. That really annoys me.

Just for some insight into you pick one. Feel free to tell why or not.
Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla
Silver or gold? Silver
Apple or PC? Apple. Most of my stuff is Apple.
White wine or red wine? I don’t really drink either, but I’ll say, red.
Liquor or beer? Liquor.
Coffee or tea? Tea. I don’t actually like coffee.
Sleep in or get up early? Sleep in.

Okay, now for the good stuff.
Why and when did you start writing fanfics?
I started writing fanfics around 2007. My first fandom was The X-Men. I was a big Wolverine/Rogue shipper. I watched the first X-Men movie and was hooked. At the time I didn’t even know what fan fiction was, but I was searching Wolverine and Rogue and stumbled upon and started reading some fics. I’d always made up my own stories in my head so I thought I’d give it ago. I starting writing my first fic and it got some good reviews when I posted it, so I wrote another, and then another.

I stayed in the X-Men fandom for about a year before I stumbled upon a Hermione Granger fan fiction site. She was always my favourite character, so then I started writing Harry Potter fan fiction. It was through that site I got interested in True Blood. And I’ve been in the SVM/TB fandom ever since.

Besides SVM/True Blood, is there another book, TV show or movie that you would write for?
At the moment the only fandom other than SVM/TB I would write for is, The Avengers.

What kind of environment do you write in? Do you prefer using a pen and paper, a computer or some sort of mobile device to write?
Truthfully? All three. I will usually write everything out with a pen and paper. But lately I’ve been using my mobile phone to write out half a chapter and then I will send it to my computer and finish it off.

Ever write in your PJs?
I have written in my PJs. Sometimes I will grab a pen and paper before I go to bed and write something out.

How bout naked? :o)
I’ve never written naked, but I have written little bits while only wearing a towel or bathrobe.

Where do you find inspiration for your stories? Do you pull your real life experiences into your writing?
Honestly I find inspiration everywhere. I’ve not written anything based on a real life experience. But, I will often be listening to my iPod and a song will come on and it will inspire me. For example, the fic Fool No More came about from listening to a song of the same name.

Do you write on a schedule? If you do, how do you keep to that schedule?
I tried to write on a schedule, but truthfully it puts too much pressure on me and I end up doubting my writing once I’m done. I’m going back to writing when I feel like it.

Do you plan out your stories or just write whatever comes to you?
A little of both. I usually have a basic plan, but I will often divert from the tracks and go in a different direction. The only things I have set on any of my stories are the pairings and a basic ending.

How do you deal with potential writers block?
Not very well. I’ve gone months without writing due to writers block. It can be very frustrating.

Do you have any writing rituals or superstitions?

Is one genre easier for you to write than another? Is there anything that you just aren’t that great at writing?
I’m not really sure. I used to be good at writing humour. And I can certainly get the characters to go dark if I have to, but if I had to pick I’d say, angst. I’ve been told by more than one person I’ve made them cry during chapters.

I’m not very good at writing fluff. Or PWP. I need a plot to go with my story.

What is the hardest part for you about writing fanfics?
The beginning. That is the part I struggle with most. Finding the right way to start of a new story, or a chapter can be a nightmare.

Is there a method for coming up with titles for your stories and/or chapters?
No. I’m terrible at coming up with titles for my stories. Sometimes I will go through song titles and find one that fits.

Which character do you identify with the most?
Sookie. I just love her character. I know she can be stubborn and whatnot, but the truth of the matter is, everyone can be.

Which of your stories is your favorite to write and why? Which of your stories is your favorite concept wise?
My favourite story to write is probably, A Marriage of Inconvenience. It is such a fun story to write. There’s no angst to it. Eric and Sookie are in a secure relationship. There’s no misunderstandings, no childish behaviour, or no jealousy. The two of them are solid. It’s nice to write that. Most of my stories tend to have angst in the beginning, they need to work towards a relationship and go through all the messy stuff, but AMOI is just them in love facing outside threats together.

My favourite concept wise would have to be, Immortal Love. It has such a rich back-story. A 1000-year love story.

Do you talk to your family about your writing? How do they feel about it?
They know I write. They’ve not read any of my stories and I’m not sure they really understand it, but they are okay with it.

Which is your favorite SVM book? Favorite True Blood episode?
Favourite book: Dead to the World.

Favourite TB episode: I Will Rise Up

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received on your stories?
I think the best compliment I’ve received would have been for Torn to Shreds. I’ll copy and paste part of the review…

Wow! And you my dear, are getting so many reviews because you are a fucking fanstastic writer! I can’t tell you how long it has been since I’ve read something this good :)… I don’t think I’ve been this excited since I started reading AllAboutEric’s fic of “Immortal Beloved”, which started almost a year ago. I can also think of Morgain Swan’s “Late” and Texan Lady’s “The Arrangement”. THIS IS A STAND-OUT! From Charhamblin

How do you deal with the inevitable criticism?
It usually depends on the type of criticism. If it’s legit, constructive, I will reply to the person (if possible) politely and address their issue. If it’s someone being rude and basically a flame, I will either ignore it, or post an AN in the next chapter, but that is only if the person didn’t sign in. I’ve only ever done that once.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
I would advise them to stay true to their own ideas. And also find a beta. It doesn’t matter how good your grammar and spelling is, mistakes are bound to happen. Having a second pair of eyes look over your work will only benefit you.

Have any recommendations? What are you reading at the moment?
I’m currently reading Lord of the Rings.

And lastly, where can all your rabid readers stalk you?
They can find me at on under VampQueenV on wordpress

and I have a facebook page

Hopefully those links work.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions!

So, go check her out and leave her some love! Cause she seriously rocks my (nonexistent) socks!
